The amount of Techron in Chevron gas is VERY small and it isn't strong enough to do any serious cleaning of your injectors or valves. If you want to clean your fuel system out, you should add a bottle of Techron's Total Fuel System Concentrate (not the Pro-Guard) to an empty tank, and then fill it all the way up and drive it till it is empty. After you have flushed it all out, you then should change the oil.
My recommendation would be to try to do this twice a year, spring and fall.

Is this the same stuff they use to prevent sulfur build up for the gas gauge problems?
Also where do you get this Techron Total Fuel System Concentrate and what does it look like?
The only other bottle I remember from Chevron and I don't see it anymore at the Chevron gas stations is that black bottle with gold lettering and I believe that was the good stuff and was also used to remove carbon deposits-wonder what happened to this product?
Wal Mart sells it, and so do most auto parts stores. Don't get the stuff at Costco, it is Chevrons Pro Guard, which is not as good. Get the stuff that has the word "CONCENTRATE" on it.
I believe the exact label says something like "Chevron Concentrate Plus. Fuel System Cleaner".

Very interesting so now this brings up another question? Is this the bottle of Techron from Chevron they mean to add to your tank to prevent the sulfur build up? This isn't the bottle I used to see with the gold lettering on it for carbon build up in engine.
It's is NOT the Pro-guard fuel injector cleaner like from Costco (6 bottles for $15.99?) to use for this Sulfur thing?
couldn't hurt, but it is expensive for some mystery ingredient. also, premium gas has more techron than the regular.
Well, maybe more advertising hype than mystery ingredients.
Light solvents (oil based paint thinner), Stoddard solvent, Naphtha, Benzene and Xylene.
Lower octane fuels have all the cleaner you need. Companies are not allowed to increases cleaning agents in premium fuels so people spend more (and buy unneeded octane) for supposedly better cleaning.
No Chevron gas any longer in NY. I put a bottle of Techron in every 2K miles or so in the Vette and the 135i(direct injection) gets the same. Many studies I've read said this stuff really works and works best.

Which stuff? Not the Proguard but the one above the concentrate?
Also anyone here know, I am still looking for that other bottle from Chevron if they make it anymore as it's a black bottle with gold lettering and instructions are in gold letters. It's a concentrate that is suppose to remove carbon deposits and clean up engine and fuel system. I want to use this on my other old car.
I've been using Chevron for 65K now when it's been available in the states I've traveled through. I doubt my injectors are dirty or clogged, as my 1/4 mile times have continually improved.
I need to start adding some of this stuff. I always run Chevron in the Vettes, I was filling up the '68 last week and noticed an STP sticker on the pump. I was confused and looked around, the stat ion had changed to Marathon
Checking out the area (Northern KY) all the Chevrons have made the change.
FYI, Chevron has a patent on the Techron additive and it is one of the only fuel additives that has been proven in a number of independent test to remove carbon build up inside the combustion chamber. Chevron won some awards for the design of this additive, and Honda, Porsche, and BMW actually name it as an approved cleaner in some of their service manuals. In short, it simply works and does what it claims to do.
I would venture to say the additive is not needed, believing that Chevron put enough in the fuel to do what it is supposed to do....
BUT, that is just a supposition
No it’s a NOT WELL THOUGHT OUT supposition.
Many of us do not have that gas company in our area.
That stuff works good in most cases. I know it helped my 98 vert and a couple other friends with full gauge problems. For my 98 I put a bottle in for each of 3 fill ups in a row to get the gauge working right and then put in the recommended amount ever 4-5 fill ups. Car was off warranty when the gauge problem happened and the fix is expensive and a lot of things must be removed to fix
In my 07 I put in Techron about every 4 fill ups. Its cheap insurance
