Can the 2009 ZR1 slave be used on the 2005 c6. I will be installing a SPEC SS Twin disc. It is cheaper than the base C6 slave if you can believe that one.
Yes it is cheaper. As a matter of fact I just bought one and have it right in front of me.
You're not going to be able to use it because I believe it has a different height. Which means you'll either have problems releasing or engaging your clutch because it will not be putting the necessary pressure of the fingers on the pressure plate.
I'm going to be using mine in conjuction with a prototype dual-disk setup that will be install soon.

As far as I know the LS9 slave will only work with the LS9 dual disk. However, the ZR1 clutch will work in any C6 model when used with the Katech alum flywheel. I would imagne that if the 2 clutch setups are close to the same heigth, it may work though, but I doubt anybody has tried it.

Spec said they have not done any testing with the ZR1 slaves. He believes that it will not work. The SS Twin dual disk comes with a .180 spacer to move the C6 slaves position as it is.
how hard is it to change out a slave cylinder? I'm not 100% sure that it is my problem. My clutch pedel is on the floor and the fluid is low and black with some junk in it.

sounds like you need to flush out your fluid first and see how that works. might take a few times before it's clean.

The slave cylinder is a PITA to change. In order to change out the slave you need to drop the rear cradle/suspension, exhaust, tunnel plate, diff, trans and torque tube. It take me about 4-5hrs to drop everything...but I've done it several times already.
I would start by doing a complete flush of the clutch fluid. Take out as much old fluid from the resovoir as possible then refill with fresh DOT 4 fluid. Get the car on some jack stands or a rack and have someone inside pump the clutch. Pump it about 10 times and hold it while you open the bleed valve on the torque tube to release the fluid, then close it. Repeat this process about 5 times or until the fluid that comes out is looking clear. Be sure to have a rag up there because it gets messy. Also, don't forget to have your buddy keep an eye on the resourvior as it will get low. Keep it at the recommended fill line.
Also, check the clutch pedal spring behind the pedal.
Will there be any other benefit besides price if it does work?
My thought is that after 5 years the newer ZR1 design would have undergone some improvements over the 2005 designed slave. I wanted to be able to take advantage of any engineering improvements.
