Has anyone tried to bond 2 tunnel plates together using maybe RTV silicone or JB weld instead of buying a aftermarket plate. 2 factory plates bonded togeather = 1/4
One solid piece is always stronger than two pieces glued together.
Not exactly.
In both bending and twisting, the interface between the two plates is at the neutral axis, and the two plates have no tendency to slide against each other.
Sandwiching two together is OK. I added a s 1/8" spacer between two plates for even more stiffness. Less than a 3/8" plate though.

Might work but the commercial replacement plates like those from Elite Engineering also are available with ceramic coating which helps reduce heat transference into the cockpit area.
