I recently purchased the Kook headers through Maryland Speed. Coating was free and the coating reduces the heat that would otherwise be transmitted to the interior. The kit is complete with gaskets etc. I had England Green in Houston put them on and do a tune. The headers + tune netted about 30 rwhp. I also added Airaid CAI myself before the headers and tune.
I also have the Kooks from MarylandSpeed! With the Vararam intake from them as well. And then LG tuned my car! The Kooks are great I have no regrets.. But I also have a new SS camaro that will go to LG and just get it all there.
Wondering anyone's experience with Kooks Headers and crossover pipe w/cats......
Buy thru forum dealer? Comes complete with gaskets and flanges?
What does coating them do for me?
I own a 2007 -A6----Installed Kooks headers--X-pipe without cats---into STOCK mufflers----Halltech air intake---tuned---produced--38 RWHP-----Now have a cam installed---still stock mufflers---NO DRONE !!---COOL wide open sound---Kooks had --PERFECT fit !!
I've had multiple cars with kook headers. The best results were on my 2004 Supercharged GTO and my 2008 Corvette. Both headers were/are 1 3/4 with NO cats. The sound is amazing. The power result is fantastic - BUT get a tune before you go to far with them. Not that it is a must have, but why complete a mod that you can't fully enjoy till tuned?
I've had KOOKS for 5 years but to be honest I don't think there is much difference between KOOKS, LG or American Racing. It really comes down to where you buy them at a good price or who puts them on.
I love my Kooks Headers and I got them from Maryland Speed however Kooks messed up pretty bad by sending me the wrong crossover pipes for my car. They sent me the 2008 pipe instead of the 2009 pipe. The label said it was a 2009 but it was a 2008. I called the factory and they didnt have a cue on how to tell the difference. He actually told me that since my car was manufactured in Aug of 2008 that maybe the factory put a 2008 exhaust on my 2009 c6 ls3 vette. A guy from maryland speed told me the difference in a few minutes and said that the factory didnt have a clue. He overnighted me the correct xpipe out and once on the car I couldnt be happier. The like the Kooks Headers and pipes but the factory support needs some serious work.
I have installed Kooks, American Racing, and LG headers in a C6. All three are very close in performance and are quality made. They also are quite easy to install. The C6 has OEM cats right up next to the engine oil pan, so when you remove them it leaves lots of room for headers.
Shop around: Maryland Speed for Kooks, Vetter Air (Carlos) for American Racing, and I am not sure who has the best price on LG's.
One thing I do not like is the slip fit connectors on the LG headers. If you end up getting LG headers, make sure you put some good anti-seize on the connections or they may never come apart again.
I have Kooks on my C6 with Jet hot coating inside & out. I did the install myself & I'm very pleased with the fit/finish and performance. I installed LG Streets on my C5 and the Kooks were an easier install in my case.
