Ok so here is my problem. I have a 2007 corvette that I have just completed a cam install on and everything is working great but after the 1st 50 miles a light came on the dash saying that the car was overheating and my a/c was shuting off due to this? I checked all my connections and even bought a new temp sensor and I still have the problem! I do have a 160 thermostat but i dont think this is the problem. Because I can walk out to the garage now and start the car and it will instantly say it is overheating?
You have the same problem I do. There is an air pocket trapped in the cooling system. I've tried everything to get mine to burp, but can't get it out. If you find a way to burp it, let me know.
Start fresh. Remove negative battery connection for a few mins. Reconnect. Before starting engine make sure everything is off in car. IE radio and HVAC controls. You want nothing on. Turn ign on and see if you now have a temp reading on the DIC. Then start car with rad cap off and let warm up. Overflow tank should not be filled more than half way. Don't touch the throttle this first few mins as the idle speed is being relearned. Also don't forget to reindex the windows. See if that helps.
Foot note. If you have a 160* stat and it is a cold morning and you do not let the car warm up a bit, you will find yourself in this situation again.
The PCM wants to see a certain temp in a certain time, if it does not see it, it thinks the temp sensor is bad and ignores it. Ie the XXX on the DIC.
I've been reading through the manual, and I notice the system looks at differences between the Intake Air Temp sense and the coolant sensor at engine start. Now I'm beginning to wonder if a bad connection at the IAT or a bad IAT could be to blame for this...
It turns out my problem had nothing to do with air in the system at all. It was a DTC that somehow got set during the refill, and the only way the error would go away was to clear the DTC code in memory.

This just happened to me, it was less than 10 minutes or so when I saw it. I doubt I have an air pocket as I have been driving the car for months on the current coolant. Oddly, I get XXX and I'm wondering if it is because of my 160 thermostat, but I'm also thinking I might genuinely have a bad temp sensor..? I'm gonna continue to research.
It is about 70 here now and it is possibly the coolest it's ever been since I got the car, but it's not exactly what one would consider "cold" outside.
Well unplugging the battery for 2 mins did the trick. I did let the car idle in the drive way for a few minutes, maybe if I just started driving it wouldn't have came up. Oh well, maybe back to the stock thermostat for the Fall/Winter months....
Kinda annoying that shutting off the car and starting doesn't make it happy.
