Default Breaking taper on front LCA ball joint?

Trying to drop the front LCA to install lowering bolts. Un-did the nut, the shock bolts, and the sway bar. Damn LCA would not drop. Banged the hell out of it with a mallet and everything, couldn't get it to separate. Any ideas? Did I miss something stupid?

Thanks!

unbolt the upper or use a pickle fork ( ball joint separator)

It doesn't always work, but most of the time it does.

Take the nut loose on the lower control arm, but not all the way off. On the sides of the spindle you will see 'flats' on both sides. Take a medium sized ball-peen hammer and give it a good solid tap on both sides. Most of the time this will shock it loose and you don't end up tearing the ball joint boot like most pickle forks do.

I will never use a pickle fork ever again after seeing how easy the ball joint separators work.

Thanks Anthony, I will give that a shot first. I never liked the idea of a pickle fork since I can't see how you would NOT tear the boot.

I used one of these bad boys.

Note: this is not my hand. My palms are super hairy so they arent very photogenic.
