Question---Why is the G.S. faster than the Regular model ??
I seen on one of the Corvette sites-- 2011 Shelby Mustang --stock--12.3 sec @ 117 mph !!!
My Vette is modded--runs close to the ZO6---should keep me out of trouble-----2011 late, Camaro will have the 552 hp motor !! Time for GM to up the HP on ALL the Vette's !!!
Question---Why is the G.S. faster than the Regular model ??
In reality it might not be as the GS is also a little heavier...but the wider rear tires and better gearing (inside the transmission of the manual model and inside the rear of the automatic model) might have something to do with it.
I'm always a little skeptical about manufacturer claimed performance. I'm not saying they're lying only that individual results may vary in the real world.
The GS gets the old Z51 gearbox if you have a manual tranny, or the performance axle if you have the A6.
Those items used to be available on the base cars, but not any more. That, with a very little help from the wider rear tires, is what makes the GS "faster."
Similar to Wayne O, I'm not skeptical about manufacturer claimed performance; I simply stopped believing it when nobody could get close to the 3.9 sec 0-60 that GM originally claimed for the 2001 z06.
I have never ran a 12.6 with my base A6 2.56 geared car.... At the 2008 Corvette Forum Cruise In I ran a string of 12.5's . The car was brand new and just turned 500 miles as I went through the gates at Beech Bend... The engine was heat soaked from the 100 mile drive there. It was a hot and humid day and I ran with all the nannies on...
