Default Oil pump failure

Ok so my oil pump has failed and you can only guess the rest of the story. As the motor has been disassembled it appears there are lots of screwed up things in the motor. All the bearings, cam, lifters Ect. So who makes the best short block? Not sure if I want to build the motor I have or just buy one any suggestions? I would love to buy some forged parts but just like eveyone else in the world money is a little funny lately!!! Any help you could give would be great.

P.S. The only thing I know for sure is if I can't put it back together right I am not going to do it at all. This will teach me to by a car that someone else has modified!!!!!!!

So just how was this car modded to "cause" this to happen?

Cam headers / exhaust system and intake. There were some install issues with the cam that appear to have caused all these problems. Im still alittle upset about it.

Sorry to hear of your trouble. Doing it right may well cost more than you wish to commit at this time, only you can determine that. You'll get some help from the very knowledgeable guys in here so stand by. I'll just throw out that maybe you can pick up a take out engine from someone here or someplace like corvetterecycling.com. Probably be the cheapest route. Just do your due diligence in checking it out. Best of luck.

The cam install is the only thing that could your problem. You can probably look directly at the original owner having some jackazz install the cam "for a good price". You know, get what you pay for. Lack of quality knowledge ends up costing owner. If you end up building a motor there are plenty of capable tuners/builders right here.

Im so glad you said it. I am really pissed right now that is why I am saying very little. I have a great tuner and builder but would like to see what other options there are as far a maybe just buying a short block. I have several events I would like to attend in three weeks and its not looking good!

Do you have a list of exactly what needs to be addressed with the parts you have? Like.....turn the main and/or rod journals, main and/or rod bearings, cam bearings, cam, pistons, boring, valves, etc? If you can give the guys here a good idea what needs to be done that might help with suggestions and cost estimates. Just thinking out loud.

Cam and lifters are destroyed! Cam bearings destroyed! Having heard about the bottom end yet but I don't have any confidence that anything there will be any good either after hearing how bad the cam is in. After all a roller cam should not have approx. .050 wore off of it and burs on it shap enough to cut you. The car only has 40,000 WTH!!!!!

Sounds like that previous owner got his money's worth out of that car!

Where did you find the car for sale at?
Did you ask for any install receipts from known LSx shops before buying?
How old was the owner? I'd bet under 30!

I don't have any pictures yet but hopefully soon. I am the 4th owner of the vehicle in two year so I'm not sure who modified the car or where it was modified. The car started in Flordia and has now made it to Tennessee. Go Vols!!!!! I think part of the problem was the broken timing chain tensioner and none of the bolt were torqued to spec.

I am looking at the Lingenfelter 417CI short block!!! Anyone have any input before I go spend lots of money!!!!

hey adam, most likely whoever installed the cam, may have pinched the oil pickup tube "o" ring seal. this would cause an airleak, maybe over time, that would cause the oil pump to suck air. this would cause low oil pressure and the resulting damage to the engine. good luck, cranky
