My 07 convertible has the original GY runflats. I dislike the ride quality and the noise (like most everyone else). I have decided to change to non-runflats. I use the car as a dd and am not too concerned about performance issues except as they relate to the performance of my radio. Value (durability) is also a factor for me. I am considering the Toyos, Michelin PS2's, Firestones, and Generals -- really I am wide open to suggestions. I live in San Diego where we rarely see much rain let alone cold weather or snow (never). Any advice?
I have the TOYO T1R's on my 02 ZO6 and 06 Coupe. There quiet, perform very well and out of all the street tire Ive had on my Vetts, these are the most forgiving in cold weather. They have better traction below 40 deg than other performance tires that Ive owned.
I have CCW 505A on the C5 Z and the 315" are bad a$$.
I tried the firestones on my 02 Z it made a world of difference in the ride and the noise went completely away, I can't say much about how they worked on wet surfaces because the car never saw rain.
I sold the car with 2K on the tires so I don't know how long they would last.
I can't wait until I'm ready for new tires. I am also thinking non-RF and I'm leaning towards the BFG KDW2 line. I also like the Nitto offerings... Let us know what you decide!
The Falkens are not supper grippy, but they have lasted over a year - about 30K miles. They stick about the same as the BFG KDW's but are a lot more quite.
The PS2s are the "best" tires of the ones listed... however they are very expensive.
If cost isn't a big factor, get the Michelin PS2 for best all around performance, quietness, and longevity IMO.
If you want to save a few bucks I'd highly suggest the Nitto Invo. It's a lot cheaper and still a great tire. I use the Nitto NT05 as my street/road course tire. The Invo has impressed me but the sidewall is too soft for my liking.
While I'm not a big fan of runflats, people have talked favorably about the improved ride quality, quietness, grip and price of the new Michelin all season run flats with a 45,000 mile warranty. That's what I'm leaning toward when I replace the supercars.
I went from the GY supercar RF to the BFG KDW's and I love them. Much quieter than the GY, better cold weather grip and better in the rain. Just my opinion.
You indicated that you're leaning towards non-runflats. But thought I would give you my 2 cents worth. Installed a set of Firestone RF's and have ~ 5k miles on them. The ride and lack of road noise is great compared to the GY's. However, my son purchased a set of Michelin RF's this past May and recently returned from a cross country tour. He was amazed at the improved ride and low noise levels compared to the GY's. While I like the Firestones, I'll certainly consider Michelin for my next set. Good luck with your purchase and let us know what you buy and your first impressions.

Thanks for all the input and responses to the poll. After a lot of thought and fence sitting, it came down to $$$. I was torn between the PS2's and the Firestones. I chose the Firestone Indy 500 Wide Ovals. Delivered and installed in San Diego for $869 from Tirerack. The reviews on the previous generation tire were mostly very good, the cost of the Michelins was way more, and I have no reason to worry much about the tires' performance in wet conditions (we live in a near desert). So far so good. Tires are quiet, grip well, and most important, the annoying tendency of the GY oem's to skitter across every little road imperfection is GONE! I love these new tires.
I'm glad you found some tires you like. I just drove from Austin, TX to Dayton, OH on the runflats. My brother and I installed a new exhaust, tunnel plate, rotors, and a new set of Bridgestone RE-11's. I have to say I like the tires a lot. Driving up on the Goodyears the skitter was so bad on 75 n through Cincinnati that I thought something was wrong with the car. The new RE-11's grip great and did pretty well im the rain. They were 1293 with the TPMS rebuild kits shipped to Ohio. So far I have about 1300 miles on the tires and have to say I like them alot. The ride was much better. I haven't pushed the car enough to say if the added side bite is from the tunnel plate or the tires.
