A/C head unit '05
Can the A/C control unit in the dash be bench tested, or does it have to be installed in the car? I've got the console tore apart troubleshooting the BTSI solenoid and it would be easy to take the head unit and get it tested.

I'm not aware of any "bench test" procedure. I'll just say that if you think the HVAC head unit is bad in any way, ie: flashing display, then just replace it. It is a common issue.

What it's doing is, on auto, the blower goes full speed and I can't go back to manual and slow the fan down. Also, the air blows through the dash and defrost vents at the same time and ignores any attempt to select between defrost, dash and floor vents. And yes, I have changed the cabin filter.

Ah.....well, that could be the head unit or actuators. Do you have access to a code scanner? Maybe someplace like Autozone or similar? You might want to also ask, with the full info you just posted included, in C6 General.
