I want to hear from some others who have LS7s and have heard tapping noise from the valve train. My car is a 09Z with less than 1K miles on it. I have noticed this noise a few times and it sounds like a lifter tapping. Only have noticed it at or near idle when warmed up. Most recently after a short drive I pushed in the clutch to coast to a stop and back into my driveway. I could clearly hear the tapping and it lasted about 20-30 seconds and went away as I idled into the driveway. Other times were similar. This is not the normal sewing machine sound that all the LSX motors seem to have, but a louder tapping noise. Again it is random in nature I can't reproduce it when I try. I know the dealer is not going to be able to hear it if I take it in. Do not have a dealer I trust in the area anyway. Has anyone else had this noise occur? Do I just drive it and not worry about it? Its under warranty and I could just have it fixed if it breaks.
Posted this in the Z06 section as well. Any feedback appreciated.
I don't think so. One it occurs after warmed up and two it seems to sound more like from the valve train area. I have had two LS6 cars and they both had the sewing machine sound but this is different. It sounds more like a collapsed lifter would sound. But as I stated it only last for a few seconds.
