I owned a very early 2005 for more than 4 years, and I never had any battery problems - I just made sure it was in reverse every time I parked it.
I put a new battery in it when I sold it to my brother-in-law 2 years ago, and he hasn't had any problems.
I think you may have a problem related to something other than the requirement to "park in reverse". If you're parking it in reverse every time you shut it down, I'd look for some other problems.
Seriously....how hard can it be to shift to reverse?
The 60% of drivers that have automatic transmissions have been shifting to Park since at least the early 50's, never hear them complain (or ask why they have to shift).
Make sure that the car has had the dealer installed BCM reflash upgrade to eliminate DBS.
I have the same car as the original post. I always shift into reverse and never had this issue before. I've had the car almost 5 years. My car developed this DBS thing out of nowhere. So for the yahoo's calling "What's so hard about shifting into reverse" go comment on other posts. Those in the know, tell me more about this BCM Flash; I need it!

Your dealer can check your cars records and see if it was done. It reprograms the Body Control Module and allows the car to complete the shut down process and ignore certain anomalies. These anomalies prevent the car from shutting completely off even if in reverse.

Your car will not "develope" this after 6 years for no reason.

REALLY! You give me credit for a grand imagination. You must be the expert I've been looking for. Please tell me more of what you know! I bet your next question would be "did you suddenly forget how to turn your car off"

JACKASS!
Judging your mentality it's probably safe to assume you're not smart enough to check the battery.

If you've had the battery for over 5 years in Florida, you might want to have it checked. The gist of the reflash is to make sure the car shuts down completely and doesn't leave something on to drain the battery.
