Default coolant loss

Recently bought an 05 vert and it seems to lose coolant. Noticed surge tank was low so refilled it but still seems to lose at a slow rate (cup per 150 miles or so). No water in oil, no white smoke or smell in exhaust, no drips anywhere that I can find. Car runs very cool, idles normally and seems to have plenty of power. No codes set. Would hope its the water pump but I can't find any evidence of leakage. Due to pump placement its hard to see if anything coming from weep hole. Haven't read about head gasket problems in LS2's. Anyone have similar experience or have further diagnostic techniques?

Thanks--Joe

Don't want to scare you but, especially on '05's recently, we're seeing more instances of cracked plastic tanks on the radiator. Can't be fixed AFAIK so most here are replacing the stock radiator with the DeWitts all aluminum. Look down the list here and over in General for recent threads on radiators. And of course could also be water pump seep from the vent hole. Try putting some paper or cardboard under the car overnight or longer if you can to see if you can spot where it might be leaking. Good luck, I hope it's something easy.

Not to be dramatic, but 1 cup per 150 miles seems like a lot to me.

I agree, cup per 150 miles is alot--thus far no luck in finding any external leakage. Next I'll just let it run parked for 30 minutes or so. I assume the water pump weep hole is up under the pulley and not easily examined. If the radiator is leaking--no problem I can replace that, I just hope its not a head gasket!--Joe

You can get dye just for the cooling system or some universal dye and put it in your cooling system. NAPA carries the universal, not sure about the specific dye.
