I made a shifter boot for my 2007 and when I took off my stock boot... first I noticed that I didn't have a torx screw, but I had a flat head screw holding my shifter **** on. Then when I took off my shifter ****, my shifter is threaded... about an 1" or so down from the top. I've had the Corvette since June, so I'm wondering is this an aftermarket shifter, because everthing I've read on the forum doesn't match what I'm seeing?
Thanks, Tom. I really appreciate the wisdom and experience on this board. My next mystery is to figure out which one... or at least figure out what the threads are so that I can change the **** in the future.
The shaft is black, has a slight bend forward (B&M appear to be straight), and there aren't any notches or grooves. The threads come down from the top and stop where the screw goes through to hold the stock shift ****.
My next questions:
1. Does that sound familiar to anyone that has changed their shifter?
2. Are the threads likely to be 9/16 - 18 and is that what fit the C5 shifter *****?
I sure would like to know what is in my car and would be thankful for any assistance.
The threads are most likely 9/16-18 just like the C5 because most of the lever manufacturers offer them like that.
I have a B&M and it is black color and angled as well. It has a vertical slot though, to allow the C5 **** to install (which uses a vertical tapered pin in that slot to lock the **** in place).
If you post a picture of it, people could better identify it.

That sounds like a Hurst. Below is a picture I made when I installed a Hurst in my car. Notice the threaded shaft and the little threaded hole at the bottom of the shaft threads. This is so you can use a threaded C5 type **** or a C6 type ****.
Thanks, Tom! That looks nearly identical to what is exposed when the shift boot is off (at least to what I remember from Sunday). I was thinking it was probably a Hurst by looking at their ads online but that is really convincing.
I already ordered a C5 shift **** from one of the forum sponsors... it should be here tomorrow. When I put it on, I'll take a better look at the shaft and see if it is a Hurst.
The shifter in this car seems to work really well. I know I don't have experience with a lot of different Corvette shifters, but after about 5k miles with this one, I don't have any complaints.
