I am sure several folks have been down this road before---i have an 07 coupe & i purchased a set of z06 calipers & z06 rotors for a brake upgrade. I thought my "custom widened" wheels would work with the new setup, but of course they don't.
Which option is cost & time effective;
buy new z06 wheels--but will my tires work with z06 wheels? I have a good set of michelin's 305/30zr19's and 245/40zr18's.
Or
keep my current wheel/tire setup--and buy spacers & put on longer studs. Are new studs needed?
I would rather buy the new z06 wheels, but my concern is will my current tires work with the z06 wheels & what about clearance issues with z06 wheels.
Note; i donot have the $$ to buy a wheel/tire package without selling the ones i have--catch 22
all suggestions will be helpful and appreciated.
Are there any z06 wheels I can purchase without the need of a wide body kit too !!!!!!!!
what kind of wheels do you have? if they are a quality forged wheel then i say go for spacers. if they aren't anything special, then just sell them and get the Z06 wheels, or some aftermarket forged wheels.
You can sell ur wells and buy some ZO6 repo wheels that are designed for the coupe but will also clear the ZO6 brakes. I think houseofwheels has them. After you sell ur wheels you make most of your money back.
I wouldn't recommend going the spacer route because adding spacers that thick will put a lot more load on the wheel bearings. Also, if you spacer ur wheel out that much you might run into clearance issues with the wheels and fenders.
It looks like I need to go with New Wheels for proper clearances, taking in consideration caliper clearance and then something that will not interfere with the fenders or look odd, or as some have said, spending more $$ on a wide body kit.
It seems that West Coast Corvettes has the perfect wheels (I hope) which cover both clearance issues. The tech said their Black Ace "Slick" : 05-10 C6 Wheels will work on the brake upgrade. They come with center caps, lugs & a set of locks for $1345 shipped to my door. Unless something else pops up, I will go this route.
I had the ACE Slick wheels in chrome for awhile after I did the Z06 brake upgrade. I had 275s in the front and 305s in the rear and the wheels sizes were 18x9.5 and 19x11. They did NOT stick out past the fender. Oh, and one other thing, they cost $950.

Reason: Verified that wheel sizes are correct.
While true they cost more than repos and other Chinese made cast wheels, they are also a much better forged, American made wheel with about the best reputation in the business. Prices are quite reasonable compared to other forged wheels. Mine mount stock Z06(325/275) tires while using the stock bodywork. I dont like to skimp on wheels for a 190+ mph Sports Car.

I don't like to "skimp" either, but I don't think you NYC Boys can run too far at 190 with all the people up there. Down in the south it is also kinda hard to run those speeds on the roads, so either way, I don't need, nor do I want to, spend $3k-$5k on wheels that go round & round just like the $1500 one's do & hey, if you got it spend it.

I looked up my records and the wheel widths are correct.
If you haven't got brake pads yet, I would highly recommend that you go with the Hawk Performance Ceramic HB531Z.570 pads. The GM stock pads are VERY, VERY dirty.

Thanks for the tire info.
For the record my screen name is NY-C6. I live on Long Island not NYC. And believe it or not there are quite a few places here to run up to 190 in a S/C'd Vette if one would be so inclined. As well as Limerock, Ct Race track which is a nice, short ferry ride away and a fun weekend.
And since I've been a member here I've read countless complaints of some wheels(that dont go round and round so well) and their sellers, yet I dont think I've came across one complaint in over 4 years about CCW products or their company. On the contrary, nothing but the highest praise for them. That means alot in my book.
And the $3K(only $1500 more than lesser foreign cast wheels) I spent on mine spread out over the many years I plan on keeping them is money well spent. My opinion, of course.

I am sure the company I purchased my wheels from will stand behind their products, as they are a vendor on this site too. I see a lot of folks get into pissing matches here, and I would prefer to go "tit for tat" with you in person, not wasting time playing games with words & opinions, junking up a good information source with our personal differences. So with that said, I have heard all the useful information I need from you, have a nice day & goodbye.
