Is it possible to do a full flush (including ABS) without a tech2? I don't want to take the car to the dealer, but I don't want to buy a $1500 scan tool either. I'd be okay with a $300 scan tool if it will let met do the flush.....

I have not seen the Automated bleed procedure on any other tool. Many performance shops have a Tech II so I would check around if you are really against the dealer doing it. It is fairly simple and we usually only charge 1 hour total to rack it, remove the wheels, perform 2 steps of the procedure and check everything.
You will need a Tech 2 to cycle the ABS valves to flush the ABS circuits if you want to do it all in the shop. But, you also cycle the ABS when you do an ABS stop!!
Like it says in the article, every few flushes during track season I do what they talk about - I flush, take it out and do a couple ABS stops, drive it home and do another flush, and I fell real good that new fluid is essentially all throughout the system. Not as good as using a Tech 2, but it has worked for me for hard track driving.
Actually if you don't get air into the modulator valve it may not need to be bled that often. With DOT3 wet boiling point being around 280 degrees F the fluid in the valve may not get that hot even under hard track usage.

There's not much captive in the ABS unit. It gets diluted back into the system when the unit activates. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
