Default MT 305/35/19 Drag Radial IS COMING!!

Ok C6 guys, this is what we have been waiting for- a 19in DR! This just saved me from spending $3,000 on aftermarket rims just so I could put a proper tire on my car.

How do I know this?? Well, as many of you know, SEMA is currently going on in Las Vegas. I happen to work at one of the host casinos for the convention and got the chance to talk with MT reps this morning. I saw the group and immediately said "I've been waiting over two years now for you guys to make a 19in Dr! When is it happening?" The main rep laughed and replied "we actually just finished up the molds, they are coming." I asked what size and got the answer I was praying for "305/35/19." They designed this for the C6 owners, which means our voices have finally been heard. Ill try and find out more about the estimated release date if I get to chat with them again.

Sweet- Wish Nitto would get a 555R, I liked it much better on my 03 Cobra than the set of MT's I had but it's a good start for that size, others will soon follow-

I assume you mean as a daily driver option...because the 555R blows compared to the ET Street Radial when it comes down to pure traction.

The only problem I see is that tire will be too tall and set off the traction control at higher speeds.

These might work nicely on my 03 Z06 ccw 19's. Looking for something a little stickier and a little more sidewall than the 305 30 19's.

Would re-tuning the trans for the slightly higher taller tires resolve this? I love my 305/35/18, but I do wish I had more wheel and tire to fill up the wheel well area.

Mostly yes, but I got worse traction from my MT's on the street in every condition, not to mention they lasted me exactly 60 days @ 650rwhp on 17's. Exactly 60 days before I was back to 555R's, and they would last up to 6 months.

I really felt like I would die at any speed over 30mph in the rain with the MT's where as the 555R's were just fine at civil speeds.

I know you're talking track prep and only track use but I thought I would share my thoughts with those guys who will want to run em on DD's. I may even try it, maybe I'll get better results this time.

I have a set of wheels (thin spoke) from an 04 and they are 18" and I use them for the track, I think (Personally) I prefer 18" over the 19' because 18" tires will be less expensive, and a larger choice,....
.... also 18" tire that has the same overall diameter will have a larger sidewall, and will be easier on the rear end... I cant honestly see any advantage of 19" Drag Radials... you can buy used OEM thin spike off an 04 that look "Almost" not exactly the same as the polished aluminum on the 05 I have...

I get great mileage out of the Nitto 305/35x18 they hook up and I drive to and from the track (100 miles each way) in 2 weeks when racing season is over I'll put on my OEM 19" rear tires, and have the DR's ready to go for March... But all this past yr. I left the DR's on and used them every time I took the car out.. + the 100 mile drive to & from the track... I got by with 2 sets of Nittos racing almost EVERY weekend, and a few extra Fri night Gambler races...

Nope. You can recalibrate the speedo in the tune for the larger tires but the fact that the front tires are not increasing in size as well is that trips the TC error.

The MT compound is much softer than the Toyo R888 which is currently the only R-Compound available in a 19" tire that fits the coupe. I agree that an 18" wheel would be better but this may offer some people an increase in traction. I would like to run MT ET II's as my all-the-time tire.

Why would this tire size cause problems with the traction control? I have BFG KDW2's in 295/35/19 on the rear of my car now and I'm not experiencing any problems. They are 27" in diameter. How much taller would a 305 series tire be?

Because the PPM of the rear tires is different than the front tires. Of course they are different even in OEM sizes but the PCM is expecting that. Now that I'm thinking of it though maybe it's only a problem when you go to a smaller diameter in the rear because the PCM thinks it's spinning faster than the front wheel. I've seen it a few times with my Toyo R888 305/30/19's which are 26.5" tall.

You must've been VERY aggressive with your ET Street Radials.

I daily drove them on my fbody for 5k miles and they still had life left and went 70mph in the rain more than once. I have also daily driven 555Rs for extended amounts of time and BFG Drag Radials. 555Rs are certainly the best for a street tire if you plan on putting a lot of miles on though, but they can't compare to the MTs for straight line traction, even on the street.

I've been well over 100mph many many times in my C6 with 305/30/19s in back with stock tire size in front and never had a problem.
