Hello. I just purchsed a 2008 Coupe. I was wondering if anyone has installed a K&N replacement filter or the complete air intake kit and what your experiences were. Do you have any alternative suggestions? Thanks.
Your stock air breather is an excellent unit and works very well. Your stock filter element is a Donaldson PowerCore unit and is the best for high flow and high filtration. The same(except for a silencer) air breather and filter element on your car is used on the Z06 and it flows enough air to satisfy the 427 cu in requirements. Plus it lasts for 50,000 miles. The MAF on the LS3/7 is very sensitive to air turbulence and the Donaldson filter element does the best job of straightening out the airflow before it passes across the MAF.
You can go with an aftermarket filter element or a completely new air breather, but you won't see any meaningful gains, if any, in performance, other then your car will be lighter because of your lighter wallet.
A lot of people that install aftermarket air breathers also complain of surging, bucking, getting CEL, etc, and return to stock to solve the problem.
