The Dexcool problems you seem to refering to are not even an issue in your Corvette. The gasket materials that Dexcool was reacting to in earlier GM models have all changed. There is no information that I know of Dexcool having any problems in C6s.

Hmmm. All the cars I ran Dex-Cool in ate their water pumps. Not so much with others.

That would be 2 water-pumps in my mustang 5.0 (crate motor/new radiator, etc. Used 50/50 Dex and Distilled water).

One water-pump in my 2001 Trans Am at the 75K mile mark. I sold it at the 149K mile-mark.

I think my Stepmom's Impala and my Dad's Chevy work vehicle also have gone through water-pumps.

I don't recall my Dad changing very many water-pumps on all the cars he had when he ran the green stuff. He put millions of miles on dozens of cars while I grew up. He drove a pilot-car for large moving things on the freeway, such as houses, part of Apollo 13, etc.

I am not a fan of Dex based on it being in the system when I killed 3 water-pumps ( in a total of 90K miles). The ones on the mustang lasted about 5-8K miles each. I stopped driving it before the 3rd one died.

Dex-cool eats seals.

Yes, I bet GM has that licked now and the C6 has a system compatable with it. Still, I am just not a fan.

I will say, though, on that 2001 Trans Am, it was CLEAN! inside. NO! scale in the radiator and none what-so-ever in the passages leading to the water-pump that I could see. It was about 7 years old at that point. I really am impressed with how Dex protected it from any build-up. I still blame it for the water-pump failure, though.

Oh, my former roommate had a GM product. His water-pump failed, too. (04? Impala with about 40K on odo)

I don't know of anyone with a GM that hasn't had to replace the water-pump by 80K miles. Maybe you all consider that standard maintenance? I don't. Not with the track-record of the cars we have not ran Dex in in comparison.

Maybe the 2005+ GM components are better matched. It seems so. I hope so.

I changed the Dexcool in my 05, which just turned 40k last month, this past summer (less than 40k miles). It was dull pink and had the floaties. After replacement it still has floaties (scum). Every car I've seen that has had DexCool in it has floaters from the DexCool film. The Prestone in my Dodge Cummins always looks bright green. No floaters/film. scum in the reservoir tank. I have 238k miles on it. I change it every few years. DexCool appears to require more frequent changing.

I'm thankful you haven't experienced negative issues with the DexCool. DexCool scared me away long before I bought this car. First GM I've owned since 77.

Just chiming in here a couple months late since I noticed the scum in my resevoir tonight. It's time to change out my coolant since it's 5 years, and I am not putting this sludge back in especially considering the cost. Just going with regular extended life Prestone.

BTW, from my experience rust will form pretty quickly with diluted mixtures.

Ok here's a good shot of this gunk. I took it out of the car thinking I could clean it, but nothing seems to rinse this stuff out. I guess it isn't harmful but it doesn't look good for the car.

Try putting a Toyota engine in your Corvette while your changing your coolant from DEXCOOL as your warranty will be toast!

1996 Vette, 1998 Monte Carlo, 2004 Grand Prix GT II, 2004 GMC Envoy, 2008 Vette and they all had DEX-COOL along with six work trucks in the last 15 years and I can swear NONE of them had a cooling system related failure ever. Do your maintenance keep them clean and change your fluids often, oil every 3-4 months regardless of miles and all other fluids every three to four years at the longest sooner if your conditions dictate. I even had DEX-COOL in my air cooled HARLEY lol)))))
