Default Question re: Rockers

I have an 05... close to stock, it has headers, Vararam, and a Tune... I would like to go to 1.7 rockers.. (it has stock cam) will I have to change springs, and push rods? Or can I just bolt on the 1.7 rockers ?

Thanks,,,

You don't have to change the springs.

The stock rockers are 1.7. Are you installing full roller rockers? If so, the recommendation is to shim the rockers to the correct wipe pattern, using a pushrod length checker, determine the pushrod length for zero lash, then add .050" to get the correct lifter preload. The preload on spec on the lifter is .25 to 1 full turn of the rocker hold down bolt.

Then order new pushrods. You stock pushrods may or may not the right length after you shim the rockers to the correct wipe pattern.

I screwed up I remember my 96 LT1 had 1.5 stock, & I went to 1.6 I thought the 05 had 1.6 stock, but you say it has 1.7 (stock) in that case I'd like to go to 1.8 to give me a little longer (or more) lift still using my stock cam.

I had VERY good results after I put 1.6 RR in my LT1 I never had the heads off that engine, & with a few engine tweaks, a 3400 converter, and 3.73 gears, I ran 12.20 @ 112 ... that car still had the stock exhaust manifolds, but had muffler eliminators... I was a great running LT1..

I would like to see 11.9x with my car without a new cam or gear change.. (3.15) now (A4) stock converter... so far I have run 12.08 @ 115 mph... but I want to keep it "VERY" road friendly as I'm planning a trip to Fla. app 1200 miles one way ....

I looked into this before I went with a cam. You will need new springs if you get the increased ratio and everyone I spoke to and everything I researched said it was very negligible gain for quite a bit of money.

For the money, you will not be able to beat a converter. You will get substantial gains from a converter, .8 or more from a 3600 with essentially no downside.

Automatic guys will testify to this if you ask and I know you've got a lot of guys locally who will give you a ride to see how it feels. It is THE killer mod for automatics.

still will get the same gas mileage on the highway. will use a little more when the converter is unlocked. best bang for the bucks. may have to retune the trans module for best shifts/lockup time.

Here is an article about rockers. They claim about 20HP but the manufacturers of rockers suggest new springs. Bang for buck is not so hot.
