Default muffler replacements

So has anyone just replaced their mufflers? If so how did you like it and what brand did you use? How is Magnaflow and flowmaster for the vette?

Magnaflow can be summed up with one word DRONE. If you want your car to sound like an old truck when you are cruising from 1600 to 2000 rpm they are the mufflers for you.

Nope dont want that low rpm drone, been there, done that and not again. I was hoping too find a inexpensive way to liven up the exhaust tone till I can decide and afford a good full exhaust. I guess I shouldnt have bought a new vette during Xmas. LOL.

I have been through the inexpensive muffler route. The best and least expensive route is to do it right the first time. I am finally EXTREMELY happy with my Z06 mufflers with the muffler mod done and the Mild to Wild switch to open and close the flaps.

I had the Magnaflow's at first, and they were fine until I added headers, then it was drone city.

I now have a big cam and headers. With the flip of the switch, my wife is happy. With the flip of the switch, I'm happy.

I have heard all mufflers drone on Vettes except maybe Corsa's. I think I have the best of both with the Z06 mufflers at half the price of NPP's or Corsa's. Absolutely no drone and loud or quiet with a flip of the switch. With other mufflers, you're stuck with loud.

Good luck,

Jeff

So were just the magnaflow mufflers ok by themselves? I will eventually go with headers, catted X-pipe and axel back but that will be awhile from now. I can get the magnaflows on for just under $400 and wont mind losing that cost 6 to 12 months down the road when I can do the real setup.

They droned a little at 1200 to 1400 rpm and that was it. Nice sound everywhere else. They became obnoxious with the long tube headers.

The Z06 mufflers with the Mild to Wild switch and the muffler mod is $700 or so plus the install. They need to be welded to your axle back pipes but so do the Magnaflows.

These bi-mode mufflers are the best mod I have ever done.

You can do magnaflows for less than that. When I put them on my 06 C6 coupe I bought two mufflers and had a local shop install them. The whole thing was less than 200 bucks. They droned a little without headers, right in the cruising sweet spot. After I put headers on it was terrible. I have an 08 Z now with headers and the stock exhaust. Sounds awesome and I have it wired up to the aux 12 v on my nave with a relay so I can turn it on whenever I want. Haven't done the muffler mod, but it sure sounds nice when I want it to. Don't spend 400 on the magniflows, find a used set of npp mufflers I bet you can get them for around the same price if you are patient.
