Hello everyone ..

I have I friend with a Pontiac G8, cammed LS2, auto w/ torque converted, good mods done by Fran, Race Proven Motorsports

Recently my friend cracked a piston , cause he forgot to change his oil on time plus he was abusing the car

anyways: am asking if anybody had the same situation & had to rebuild the engine ?? what are his best options for saving money??
rebuild?? or buy a new engine with some miles ??

Being late on an oil change is generally not a cause for cracking a piston...for that matter neither is hard driving/abuse (unless of course by 'abuse' you mean running watered down 80 octane gas and/or racing in a windy desert with no air filter on the car LOL ).
I've pushed my oil changes to nearly two years/six thousand miles with 200+ all out 1/4 mile passes in between without a peep from my LS2 or LS1.

That being said, if it were me I would buy a new LS3 crate motor (or a used LS2 shortblock and reuse his heads (if they're still ok) if he's truly on a budget) and sell off the working remains of his old LS2 (which is actually an L76, sort of an LS2 with LS3 heads).

maybe some bad fuel or tune, but knowing RPM I doubt the tune.
