Default Nav System Acting weird

For a while now, when I hit the NAV button on the radio and push the agree button the display says to insert a map dvd. I drop the screen, eject the disc and reinsert it. Sometimes this works, more often it doesn't. Today I got the message and when I tried to eject the disc it would not come out then the screen would not go back up. I persuaded the screen back to the closed position (ok I forced it) then the screen would not go down. I called my local Chevy dealer and set up an appointment to have it checked. As I'm driving home the screen starts flashing the Corvette emblem then comes back on to the radio screen. I figure WTF and try the screen button again and voila it lowers. Next I try to eject the dvd and yes it ejects. When I put the disc back in, I still get the insert map dvd message. I try to eject the dvd again and it won't come out and the screen won't close. I stop to check the progress on my new house and when I get back in the car and start it the screen closes and the nav system works like normal. My car is an 07. Are there known problems with the nav systems on these? Should I keep my appointment on Friday. I bought a warranty from Ford when I bought the car used. If it covers the nav system it will pay for itself in one shot. Also the diagnostics will be paid for. If not I get to pay for the diagnostic and have a broke nav system.

Try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 1 minute, then reconnect. This may clear things up. If not, you still have the dealer appointment.

Mine was locking up, rebooting, and just having general problems reading the DVD. I took it in to the dealer and they ran a diagnostic on it, and said it failed, and so they replaced the whole unit under warranty. They also told me they have seen a fairly high number of failures of these DVD driven Nav units in various GM vehicles.

The new one has worked flawlessly. My only regret was not taking it in sooner and getting it fixed.

Warranty will be your best option. Pulling the fuse for it will force a reboot but got to tell you, any time you force a machanical/electrical device such as any door mechanism, you are simply telling yourself to get out your wallet. Rarely and I mean rarely, does anything good come from forcing things.

Of course the stupid thing is working fine now. If they run a diagnostic on it will it come out good since it is working correctly now? My appointment is tomorrow afternoon but I hate to spend the money for them to tell me it's fine.

Well, if you are under warranty, might as well have them look at it just in case.

Well it turns out the radio did check bad and is covered under the extended warranty.
