Default LS376/480 cam in a LS3

The GM performance parts catalog has a LS376/480 which is essentially the stock version of the LS3 with the 88958733 Hot Cam (what GM calls it) and advertises 50 more HP and 51 Lbs. more torque. These are pretty impressive numbers for a cam swap alone and I was wondering if anybody has tried this cam. My concerns would be if a tune would be necessary (I think it probably is) and will it pass emissions later? Does anybody have any thoughts. I did a search and didn't find anything on the LS Hot cam.
Thanks
Jim

"User Note: The GM Performance Parts LS 376/480 crate engine (19171224) comes equipped with the LS Hot Cam
(88958733) which is an aggressive high performance camshaft that may cause slight surging below 2500 rpm under
light load. This should be considered a normal functioning occurrence given the aggressive nature of the LS Hot
Cam. This surging can be avoided by increasing either the rpm or throttle of the engine at the same given velocity.
Under full throttle usage, you should not experience any surging when using a GMPP engine control system
designed for the LS376/480."

Cam specs are:

.525"I/.525"E
219*I/228*E
112LSA

Compared to the LS7 cam:

.593"I/.588"E
211*I/230*E

Forum member "RLSEBRING" has the LS3/480 hot cam motor in his 2008 A6 convertible. He can probably give you some insight into driveability.

I have just put this Crate Motor in my 05 coupe, still getting use to it. It is drivable and as noted in the previous thread tends to surge a little at low RPM. Tuner put an initial tune that is a little rich to break it in and wanted me to bring it back in a couple of hundred miles to finnish the tune. It has a noticable cam lope to it and a guy in a new hemi Charger gave me the thumbs up as we drove passed each other in traffic this morning. I will be getting back to the tuner and a chassis dyno and let everyone know what the rear whell HP is?????

With a proper tune and maybe 25-50 more RPM at idle, this cam should idle and drive the same as stock. I have a slightly bigger cam and it has no lope or surge anywhere.

The specs I have seen match JoesC5. The cam lobes come in at ~.330. With the 1.8 rockers in the Z06, it works out to ~.590 lift. Install the cam in a regular C6 with the stock 1.7 rockers and the lift drops to the range you stated.
