I tried searching the forums but didn't find the answer I was looking for so hopefully someone can shine some light on the subject for me.
I come from the Mustang world so please bare with the inexperience.
On an LS3 specifically what benefit do Underdrive Pulleys have? Are the gains worth the cost?
Secondly in March I plan on going with Long Tubes but sticking with the stock axleback, mainly because $1000+ for a catback still seems very costly to me when the same Corsa exhaust went for almost 50% less on my old mustang. Either way...
Does removing the cats or going with high flow cats of any benefit? On my 08 Mustang going with an off-road pipe caused a loss in torque because of a loss in backpressure related to butterfly valves under the intake. (They are called Charge motion Control Valves in the Ford World).
Again, I am very green with Vettes and may end up going with a different order in mods based on $$$ and what I find on my local craigslist.

A tune is your best bet, i've read the crank pulley is worth 8-10 hp at the wheels but is a pain to install, a catback doesn't give much, headers or a used Z06 exhaust helps a good amount, being a larger engine no cats probably wouldn't hurt bottom end as much as it would a 4.6 mustang
A lot of people run longtubes with high flow cats and the stock mufflers. I like LG, but the major brands all provide quality system that can connect to the stock mufflers. Gains from running catless are small to nonexistent on a nearly stock motor.
Unless you are doing your own work and enjoy doing it, a UD pulley is best left to when you do a cam install due to effort required to access the pulley.
Seems like my plan is staying the same then. LT's and a tune then tackling the suspension. Unless I can't find LT's for cheap then I'll tackle the suspension first.

I have LG Longtubes, High flow cats, and the stock mufflers. What is nice is that it is very quiet at normal driving, but has a great sound when you get on it. Also, you can always change the mufflers later!!!
If you have access to a welder and a little skill you can buy Magnaflows or( insert your own muffler) Carefully Cut the stock muffler off the pipe and re-weld the new muffler on. Takes a little work but in 6 hrs. I had a $1,000 cat-back for $135!!! I added flowmaster tips to it for an additional $90 dollars and they look and sound as good as anything I have heard. Good luck on the upgrades and welcome to a Grand and fun new world!
