After losing control swerving to miss someone who wanted to merge into me in the rain, I ran over a curb and hit a mailbox. All 4 wheels and tires replaced, front bumper cover, bumper liner, misc plastic pieces. No air bag deployment, no suspension damage, nothing under the vehicle at all. Both the body shop and I have tried to start it, nothing. Press brake, mash start, dash goes black except for a check engine light. Starter doesn't make any noise, doesn't engage, nothing. Car was running after the incident, I cut it off in the normal fasion.
No electronic mods at all. Plenty of under-hood mods, but nothing to ignition or starting.
Did it sit at the body shop for a while? Battery might need a good charge. Try connecting the shops battery starter/charger so you know you're getting the full amperage if it still Doesnt work with the power attached, look elsewhere.
And how did you ruin 4 wheels but not anything under the car?
Car has been out of commission for less than 2 weeks, battery is only a couple of months old. First attempt was to charge the battery, then they replaced it with a jump-pack with the same results.
No under-car damage was done, the starter is wrapped behind the Kooks pretty well, and they aren't even scratched.
I know on some of the Fords there is a fuel pump switch that can get tripped in impact but my car won't even try to start. Maybe there is something similar, but prevents fuel and engine turn-over?
I saw this issue once when I had my 06 Coupe for sale. The person who was purchasing it, didn’t know how to start it and pushed the start button a bunch of times in a row. IT DIDNT LIKE THAT!
I just turned the switch OFF, (pressed the OFF side of the switch) and then pressed START. It started normally and it cranked right up.
It also happened once and I found that my START switch was bad. I had one on hand because the OEM one was cracked (common issue on older C6's that has nothing to do with the reliability of the switch)
Pop the dash panel out and make sure that the connector on the start switch/button is properly connected.
Since the car was running after the accident I don't think it could be a fuel shutoff. I would check for an electrical connection that may have been disturbed by the repair work. If you have the service manual you may be able to identify the relays & connections which activate the starter.
Car is still at dealer, condition has not improved. Dealer diagnosed that power was going into PCM but none coming out, so they replaced the PCM. Now power is apparently leaving the PCM (this is how they described it to me, I'm guessing they mean reference voltage to sensors and the like). Now they think some other modules might have been damaged as well. I'm still not fully understanding how the car was running when it came to a stop but the PCM was toasted and whatever else was too. All this from an impact not great enough to deploy the air bags.
