Default Cam degree kit

It looks like due to my budget, or lack thereof, I will have to install my cam myself. It's been recommended I install it +2. Looking online, the cam degree kits are approx. $180 or so. Does anyone have a used one for sale or rent? I don't think I will ever need one again, so I really don't want to buy a new one. Kevin

Just go ahead and install it dot to dot (lined up on the cam and crank gear) and you'll be fine. I've installed several +2 cams in LS motors without using a degreeing kit and have never had a problem. In fact, the one time I did actually use a degreeing kit (when I was rebuilding my Grand National motor) after buying the kit and figuring it out how to use it properly, it ended up lining up dot to dot anyway.

Is the cam ground with the +2 or are you trying to advance a cam you own by an additional 2*? If it is the latter, I'd get an adjustable timing chain set and do that way.

I found a friend with a cam degree kit. I'm unfamiliar with the process, but he is going to show me how it works. Spin recommended I install the cam +2, so that's why I'm doing that. I installed a cam in my Camaro recently, but didn't degree it. I'm getting a Katech C5R timing chain, is that adjustable?
