Default Drivetrain "clunk"

08 2LT C6 Base Coupe A6 NPP & F55 40K miles.
At times when driving usually low speed @35MPH or so, I let off the gas and reapply power. I get a hesitation and then a clunk like feeling in the rear as it re engages the the drivtrain. Kind of like it is reseating the axles to the differential.

Another issue I have is the FL tire "squeaks/squish" as it rotates. I can hear it very well with the window down and driving by a wall on the left.

Any ideas?

The hesitation upon re-applying power is there in all automatic transmision cars, but the C6 is said to have more. Sometimes, much more. I have not experienced it but others have and I don't doubt their word.

The tire noise could be a problem, or simply wide soft noisy worn (?) tires driving along the wall. I'd check pressures and inspect the tires (turn steering sharply while parked to look at tread). If you aren't satisfied, get it up on a lift at a tire shop and inspect the tires more carefully.

Then, let us know!

New tires.
the hesitation I am familiar with. It is the sound/feel of the drivetrain ? reingaging ? to the axles?

Check to see if either of your axle nuts are loose.

Yep, I'd check the axle nuts. There is a TSB about that issue.

Others have commented about the sound/feel of the drivetrain when re-applying power; but all I've experienced is a slight hesitation and slight lurch, not much different from my wife's Toyota. I'll be doing some more testing when the roads dry up.

I had a similar "clunk" with my 09 and manual trans from day one. I finally checked the axle nuts and both sides were loose. Torqued them up to ~130ft-lbs and clunk is gone.
