I would shy away from a used transmission as you have no idea what you are getting. Even if they give a warranty on the used unit, you still would have to pay labor again if it was bad within the warranty period.
Rebuilding the transmission is okay but many times can cost as much as a good upgraded transmission.

The Transmission is a 6 speed manual. It has been driven easy. Transmission shop recommended by local corvette club says rebuilding will be from 1800 to 2800. This does not include cost to remove it from car.

Get it off the ground onto jacks. Have someone start it, get it in gear, you under it and start listening. Insure its coming from the transmission. Next please check your fluids in the transmission and differential.

Sounds more like a torque tube noise. I like dgrant3830 Idea. Pin point the noise and go from there. Drain the tranny ATF and examine the fluid.
If it shifts good, theres a chance its something other than the tranny. Any chance of making a video of the noise and posting it?
