2006 coupe. Sometimes the dash lights and odometer reading will not come on in daylight hours. If you manually turn the headlights on they will come on but if I start the car in the garage and pull out, the dash lights and odometer reading won't come on. I figure it's the sensor but it doesn't do it every time. Thoughts? Has this happend to anyone else?

Do you mean "turn the headlights off" ?

Did the headlights come on while in the garage? This is during daytime?
If yes, the light sensor (in the middle of the dash) has not registered daylight yet. It senses light immediately, but a certain amount of time has to pass before it switches modes (to prevent overhead street lights from turning off headlights during night driving). Once the time expires, the headlights should go off and dash lights come on full power. Before this happens, the dash lights should be in the dimmer "night mode" setting.
If you turn the headlights on manually the dash lights come on also. If you have the headlight switch in auto mode and pull out of the garage the dash lights usually never come on but the headlights come on in the daytime. Got me.
My '05 has been doing the same thing. Some times they go to day mode as soon as I back out of the garage and a lot of times it won't switch over for 10 minutes or so. Turning the headlights off gives the Headlights Recommended message on the DIC and it's the middle of a sunny day. A few days ago I was driving around at about 4:30 pm and my headlights came on. The sun was low but still daylight outside. I'm thinking the light sensor is either dirty or getting ready to fail.
