Default Need help...B0171 Lean bank 1

This is the second time I've gotten this code, the first time was @ 7k miles or so and completely stock, I took it to the dealer and they really couldn't figure it out just did a software update and said it's still running a bit lean but could be because the car hadn't been driven much and just told me to use chevron w techron and to put some miles on it now 5k later same issue... Any ideas???

-Check your MAF sensor, clean it or replace it
-Swap out your Front O2 sensors from left to right and see if it chases the problem to the other side

Ok I'll give that a shot, now I was told that it takes the car having the same issue occur multiple times before it throws a code ie(it took 5k to reoccur) is it safe to be driving it around like that? I had a similar issue in my c5z running lean on bank 1 and the motor ended up grenading on me?

I think it sets a code after the second consecutive failure. Does it idle roughly? If you have a scan tool you should be able to run down a check list which includes the items already suggested.

There can also be a small vaccum leak, weak injector or oxygen sensor electrical connector shorting out against the exhaust.

Your profile lists a cam & tune. A lean condition in a car with a cam & tune can be very dangerous so I would take car of it as soon as possible.

good luck

My C5z has the cam n tune but the C6 is pretty much stock just a CAI and it originally threw the code bone stock and now again w the CAI. It doesn't idle roughly but occasionally it will surge drops down to 500 and then back to normal...

My mistake.... check a previously outlined. It could also be a small blockage (debris in front of the MAf or a loose connector)

good luck

Get someone to scan the car and check the LTFT on Bank 1. It will be obvious if there is a problem on 1 side only. If there is it cannot be anything related to the MAF. As stated already switch front 02's and then check for vacuum leaks. These are by far the most likely culprits

It stands for Long Term Fuel Trim. The computer can adjust fuel up to 25% up or down in the long terms, and once it gets to +25% and cannot adjust anymore then it throws the lean bank code you are getting. In other words it is reading way too lean to likely be anything besides a bad 02 sensor, vacuum leak, or MAF problem. But if it was the MAF both sides would be reading +25% and you would probably be throwing a MAF code in addition to the lean code.

The MAF cannot cause only 1 bank to be off anymore than just a little bit from side to side. Hope this helps

do this first, usually the sensors go lean when they are going bad. Remember it doesnt read fuel at all it reads oxygen so a vacuum leak or hose off can cause issues as well.
