Looked for a previous thread, couldn't find one for what I need.
Asking for CF member's experience, wisdom, on using the offset wheel spacers being recommended by some, to fill out the wheel wells. Some of these spacers are up to 1.75 inches. Wondering about bearing life, suspension strain, handling changes. I have a base model without the Z51 suspension, but looking to go to wide body fenders and quarters, maybe the exteme quarters by Supervettes.
Your thoughts and experiences are appreciated.
Thanks,
coop
hey i havent done this personally, id imagine there is some additional strain on the bearings but it wouldnt be bad, the car should handle better because your increasing its track.
i would find spacers the same width as the increased width of the wide body, the spacers im thinking of bolt to your original studs and provide new studs.
spinmonster has used them id pm him.
this is the path i was going to take when going wide body
From what I've read, if you're going over 1/2 inch, there will be increased bearing wear. The suspension should not be affected, and unless your tracking it, handling should not be an issue. You will need longer wheel studs.
I have 1/4 inch spacers just to make the tires flush with the fenders.

not with hub adapters
i changed wheel studs to 1/2 longer units and wouldnt wish it apon my enemy...
any more info on this? I am in the process of doing a wide booty only, and will need adapters for the rear in the mean time while i purchase my forged wheels. Where and what size? will 1.5 inch adapters do? Thanks

That makes no sense. Z06 wheels simply have 1.5" more metal added to the back of the hub moving the wheel out. What difference does it make if the added metal was part of the wheel or from a 1.5" adapter? I dont see Z06's having bearing failure all the time.
Wheel adapters have offset studs built in to them. You dont need longer wheel studs as you use adapters, not spacers.

I've seen 1.75's and 2". the 2" was really under the fender lip. I'd go 1.75"

There are always a precaution to shortcuts, I would buy a set of used C6 Z06 wheels and tires, just bolton and its good, or you can buy a set of used rims with tires to fit the Z06. I am selling a used set with tires presently on the F/S section.
