Default Force Induction or heads/cam???

There might already be a discussion on the forum about this; however, I can't find it...if you know, please post the link for me. Anyway, I always keep wondering if, say on a C6Z06, which is the best bang for the buck/performance? I know you're limited on a stock LS7 bottom and PSI...or I've read, so not much boost to induce. So what's the biggest usable centri system that you would want and keep it safe also? What head and cam package would compare to power gained from FI without having a monster cam? I'm not too fond of the loud whining of the FI, or is there an almost quiet one, until you floor it? Thanx for the help...have been wondering for a while now. I currently have a coupe; however, thinking of upgrading to a Z.

My personal opinion is that forced induction is better for the street, cam/heads is better for the track.

I dont know about the drag strip, thats not my type of driving, someone else may comment on it.

Thanx! I do a bit of both, but not a hardcore track guy...just for fun!

Well the thing with superchargers is that they tend to lose performance over time on the track, as they get hotter. At some point the intercooler just cant keep the air as cool as it would like.

But if you go the other way, the high flow heads and big cam are going to make for sketchy throttle response down low on the street.

So its kinda 'choose your poison', lol.

Personally I wound not go extreme in either direction, and you should probably be ok.

Monster cam is relative, but you can have 550 RWHP with heads/cam/intake/headers on C6Z and good driving manners. Some tuners can squeeze out a bit more while keeping the lower rpms tame, but if 550 doesn't get you interested, I'd suggest you start looking seriously at FI.

Thanx for the responses. I think I'd like to see between 550-600rwhp as in my opinion, it will be hard, and expensive, to try to put all that power to the ground at the right time and progressively. I'm not really looking for a dyno queen!

You might want to wait a bit and see how the new E-Force S/C for the LS7 is reviewed. It is rated at 657 horsepower at the crank(~575 at the wheels) with 5.5 psi boost. Fits under the stock hood and is very quiet crusing and just a little louder at WOT. It uses the same 4-lobe rotors that the Caddy CTS-V and the ZR1 uses(The Caddy uses 1.9L rotors and the ZR1 and the E-Force uses the 2.3L rotors). I would also go for a larger radiator at the S/C install.

You can have it all with f/i. Perfect manners, excellent reliability, and at least similar if not more power. Sure 550+ is doable with cam and heads on a Z06. Your car will have a nice rumble and shake at idle.....won't pass too many fuel stops. Some are OK with that and might even like it. Not for me, but I've seen what f/i can do. Depends on what you like.

it depends what your looking to do, im running a sc, my friend a h/c in his c5z. obviously mine is faster on the street but he's going to whoop me on the track because of cooling issues with the giant intercooler

i have a really aggressive cam, 234/240 .576 .588 114+2 but my tuner rocks and it drives like stock

If thats realy your goal in a C6Z I'd go heads and cam. If you're going to want over 600 rwhp I'd look into FI.

After heads / cam you might as well have done Forced Induction. You can get 550-600 with h/c/i etc. however with F/I you could have achieved just that with much more potential and less work.
