Default Streetable Cam Advive

I'm new to this forum and thus far have enjoyed all the input everyone is willing to give. I am also new to being a corvette owner. Just bought my first about a month ago. She's an 08 C6 M6. I've always owned Mustangs but there will be no going back. Sorry for the rambling. The question is anyone have opinions on a good streetable cam. I know everyones opinion of streetable will be different. Just looking for something that gives descent gains but keeps most daily driver aspects. I've heard good things about the LG G6xe. Also heard good things about using the ZR1 cam. Any input would be appreciated. If it makes any difference, I have z06 mufflers w/mod and getting headers put on this weekend. Thanks guys and sorry for the novel.

this is the right section. the g6xe is probably the best cam that drives like stock. i would get it over the zr1 since it will make more power. i think you can expect 450rwhp with it.
when I was looking for a cam, i wanted something very streetable, but with a little lope. i narrowed my choices down to the texas speed 225/230, quality motorsports' bully cam(mid 220's intake with a wide split), spin's 230/234, and rpm's zz-19 cam (i think it's similar to spin's cam). i think any of these would have been good choices, but i went with rpm's cam since I had them do the work.

I'm in a very similar boat -- installing headers in the very near future, and am going to visit LG tomorrow to talk about what they could do with a cam swap to give me gains that make it worth the cost but still very streetable.

I'll be following this thread closely so let us know what you choose!

spin's cam has alot of positive feedback. I have a real aggressive cam and it's still streetable so I don't think you will have problems with any size. It sure is an attention getter with a little lope.

I ran 2 cams in my 08 M6-

1st was a 228/232 and then Spin's 230/234 (updated now to 231/234).

My personal advice is 231/234. Drove like stock, no surging but still had the lope to it and made plenty of power.

Are you adding headers too?

Around 0 overlap is easy to tune as a novice for very good manners and mild idle. 226/234 115 +3 does nicely. If you're having a shop install and tune or plan to put some time into the tune, going a little bigger is fine. The LG G6X1 should be on your list if you want an LG cam.

Where's a good place to buy a spin's cam? Do they have a website? I've been google searching but can't seem to find it.

I recommend the 227/239 cam from John at 21st in Carrollton - it just made over 500rwhp on stock heads with a very smooth idle.

I went with Kooks 1-7/8" headers with 3" catted x-pipe all the way back to the catback where it necks down to 2-1/2" to attach there. Anyway you look at it the cats are the restriction and with the collectors being 3" O.D. I like the idea of running stright 3" through the cats for maximum flow.

There have been good reports using the ZR1 cam in the LS3. The ZR1 cam is the same as the LS7 cam except the ZR1 cam has a little less overlap. I'm sure the cam experts will say the LS7 cam is crap but it sure works good in the Z06. Pulls hard to redline and idles smooth as silk at 600 RPM. Of course, installed in the LS3, the LS7 cam has less lift(at the valve) because of the 1.7 rocker arms on the LS3 vs 1.8 rocker arms on the LS7.

I would think that the LS7 cam would be a little better at making horsepower over the ZR1 cam, yet drive like a stocker.

Driveability is highly subjective.

Almost all cams are now made by Comp Cams. You may give them a call and explain what you are looking for, the kind of idle, lope, driveability, torque, and horsepower. Remember...its the total combination that really matters. Do you have headers, intake, and future plans.

The test below from GM High Tech Performance Magazine is a good starting point for you to read.
GM HIGH TECH PERFORMANCE CAM TEST

It has been said many times, don't just pick the cam based on peak horsepower. It's the total torque curve or as its called power under the curve.

The stock ZR1 cam is OK but it was specifically designed for use with a blower. There are much, much better cam choices out there if you are staying with a NA motor.

This cam selection web page on the Hinson Supercar Wesite is a great place to see what is available.

The ZR1 and Z06 cams are optimized for emissions and smooth idle. They would be very low on my list.
