Default ls7 exhaust manifold for ls3

there has been some chat about using the ls7 exhaust header on the ls3 for those who prefer not using headers. i briefly spoke with the guys at lg about a cam only mod specifically there executive cam, ud pulley ported tb and a good tune they had mentioned they have had gains using the ls7 header, now i never asked how much of a gain there actually was and they are closed until monday so i was hoping someone had the answer! i will be modding my 2011 gs vert m6. also can you use any year ls7 header and will it work with the stock ls3 headpipe and cat? thanks to those that can help.

In a LS2 with a similar LPE GT11 sleeper cam I was able to muster up about 15 to 18 hp gains by swapping out to a complete Z06 system.

If you go to the Z06 manifolds you have to go to Z06 cats and mid pipe also. Or do lots of cutting and welding.

thats what i was afraid of! now im really only going to be comfortable with a very late or low mileage take off. are the 02 bungs in the same location? and is there any difference on the 2010 or 2011 ls7 manifolds.

You will need 12inch long upstream(the trapazoid ones) o2 extensions. Caspers has them in stock. The downstream o2 work fine with no extensions.

Its good for around 30 HP or so (LS3) if you run the entire system and get a tune.. I'm going this route (Manifolds/cats/mid pipe/mufflers) You don't need the O2 extensions either, simply unwind the tape in the loom to get more slack for the wires and then re tape.

FYI There is currently a set of Z06 manifolds, cats and mid pipe on EBAY for 350 plus shipping..

www.casperselectronics.com

They make all sorts of electrical gizmos for GM and other brands. Mostly they do harness extensions, fan control mods and a bunch of stuff for the old Buick GN cars.

NPP is 2 1/2", the Z06 is 3". If you go a full Z06 system, I would suggest doing the muffler mod to them before installing them.

You can probably sell your NPP mufflers for what a COMPLETE Z06 exhaust will cost you. Your only cost would be installation. Your profile doesn't say what trans you have but if you have an A6 you'll have problems getting the Z06 overaxle pipes to fit.

You don't have to sell your NPP's, used the Zo6 H-pipe and had the muffler shop weld my 2 1/2 ends on the Zo6 H-pipe. My NPP are getting louder the more miles I put on them Press the button and quiet as stock.....I had the manifolds jet coated, really made a differnce in the engine compartment.

why is that? doesnt the Z have a bimode set up simuler to the npp? i dont understand why the whole Z system could be worth less than just the npp mufflers

Well I found a few systems out there now I need to see if I can keep my npp mufflers on the 3 inch Z pipes without it looking like a non oe weld job! I'm tring to keep everything looking oe.

My Z06 exhaust system has been great on my LS2, I think I paid $600 for the whole thing manifolds to mufflers. This was shortly after people discovered you could do this mod, prior to that the whole Z06 setups were mostly given away. I've seen NPPs going for $800 so you really could do this for free.

I suggest you listen to a Z06 muffler mod before cutting into yours. I personally do not like the sound, especially so with a cam, sounds too much like a big truck. Lot's of guys love it though so its a personal choice.

The NPP and Z06 are similar in design and control but made of different size pipe and have different internal design.

Check the Parts for Sale section. Used NPP axleback for around $800, used Z06 manifolds, cats, mid pipe $350/Z06 axleback $350.

Keep the NPP and put a 3" to 2.5" reducer on the tail end of the Z06 H-pipe. It'll be hard to duplicate the weld, because good welders will have a better looking weld and poor welders have really crappy welds.

It's not like the whole world will be able to see the welds anyway.

ya know its funny how all of a sudden everyone wants the ZR1 mufflers because there basically a 3 inch npp and people are hacking up there Z mufflers to make them sound like an npp. im starting to see your point! i guess its time to find me a good welder or a set of ZR1 mufflers.
