Default Engine Light ? / Interior Lights

Strange happenings with my Corvette.
I have a 2007 Coupe with 20,000 miles.
Took it for a drive today and the engine light came on. Strange. I pulled over as soon as I saw it, and turned the car off and then back on. The light remained.
I drove it home and it was fine. Gauges were in the right place and it was running normal.
Came home, put it in the garage for a few hours. Not sure exactly what to do.

I looked at the car in a few hours and saw that the interior lights were on. I turned the car on and off again, still they stayed on. The engine light was also on. Hmmm. I think maybe the computer is messed up? Don't know. Naturally, this happend late on a Saturday when the Corvette dealer is not open. So I am wondering; anyone here have any ideas? I certainly will go to the Corvette mechanic on Monday but I fear there is an issue with the battery.

When I look at the car, it looks as if it is "on, ignition, interior lights, but it isis off." What should I do.

Any thoughts or ideas from you would be extremely helpful and I thank you in advance.

I would try disconnecting the negative battery cable; wait a while and then reconnect it. It may reset whichever computer is causing the problem, if in fact, it is a computer issue. Could be a loose batery cable or a bad battery. bad ground some place, etc. These cars do strange things when the battery starts to go. At any rate, you will only have to reindex your windows as a result of disconnecting the battery cable.

The check engine light is emission related. If the engine is running fine, then its not something I would get too excited about. If it is not flashing, then it is a history code and not currently active code. After a few starts, it should go away. I would not panic. It could be as simple as a loose gas cap. You could clear it by pulling the negative cable for a minute from your battery, but if it were me, I would let it alone and it may go away by itself after a few starts.

The interior lights are probably because you accidentally hit the instrument dimmer **** located just to the left of the steering column. If you push it in the interior lights should go out.

I agree with Mez about the dimmer switch.

For the DTCs, I recommend that you go to Autozone and ask them to read the DTCs for you.. (It takes 5 min and they do it for free) That way, you will KNOW what is wrong and we can properly advise you on what needs to be done to repair the issue.

Thank You All So Very Much.
The Corvette Forum is so amazing.

The Engine light is still there, but I will try your suggestion. If it continues, I will bring it to the mechanic. The interior lights did finally go out. Hmm, I am either way too impatient or have hit that switch or something.

I appreciate your helpful thoughts. I am a new Corvette owner and am not as savvy with these things.

Many thanks to all!

I put a nylon lock collar with setscrew on my dimmer/on/off switch to prevent pushing it in and turning it on accidentally with knee, elbow, stuff. Forgot what diameter. Also, the interior light butttons on the rear view mirror operate independently of the dimmer **** and are also easily turned on accidentally.

Further info on Wynsnob's check-engine light, to put some closure on this and informational purposes.

The check engine light did eventually turn off (as predicted here - thanks brother Mez) , after about 3-4 restarts and 2-3 drives and voila. I guess something tripped it on (emission temporary fault?). We'll monitor further (if it comes on again?). We did rule out the gas cap, however (since I filled it up and know the cap may become tempermental, if not tightened correctly). Thank again to all.

Glad to hear it worked itself out.

Yes, it probably was a temporary emission related fault but there is a long list of faults that will trip the light.

The fault code is stored in history for a while so you can have someone with a code reader check it. If it were me, I wouldn't do anything until it comes back again.
