I did a search but didn't find the answers I was looking for. What is the least expensive way to get a better gear in a 2006 A6? Will the rear from a M6 bolt to a A6 tranny? Is there any way to use an 05 A4 rear with a A6? Are the gears the same? I have both a 3.15 gear set out of a C5 and a complete 3.15 rear end from a 05 A4 car, so I am trying to work something out without dropping $1500 on a gear swap. Thanks!

There really is no cheap way to do it unfortunately, other than buying the optional 2.73 (not too much of a jump) carrier out of a later (2008 and up) A6 car. They can also be quite expensive, broken inside and difficult to locate as well.
Finding a used C6 Z06 3.42 rear (it fits with the purchase/use of a few other parts) is another possible option but again much of the above can also apply there.

Unfortunately no. Plus you really don't want to put a 2005 C6 rear where a stronger 2006+ rear once was anyway, it's a step down in strength.
