Just installed E3 plugs and new wires. Idle is better than ever.
Has anyone else done this and what was the result?

If or when you get a charging system light...it won't be your alternator. You will need to put some new AC Delco plugs back in to correct the problem. Not sure why, but many others have experienced that problem.

 

I had some E3's in my 69 nova. They worked great so I put them in my 2000 yukon when it was time for a plug change. They lasted 700 miles, then threw codes and my yukon shook, spit, and sputtered. I figured it couldn't be my plugs since they were new. I couldn't figure it out on my own, so I took my vehicle to the shop. Turned out to be the plugs. The shop told me the E3's dont work well in cold weather. I had an E3 in my snowblower, and that took a crap too. From now on, I will stick to what brand came in my vehicles new.

 

I had a customer with a 01 C5 and the E3 plugs caused idle erractically. Once they were replaced, the Vette runs great.

 

Most reposnses you will get from those plugs will be negative. I asked about the several months ago because I saw them featured on the speed channel, and a few here have tried them with negative results. You would be better off going back to the stock plugs.

 

Word on the street is EMI from some spark plug manufacturers including the E3 causes late model vehicles with ECUs to be un-happy. Best bet is to stick with manufacturer recommendations

 

I run E3 plugs on my 02 Avalanche and have about 40k miles on them with no problem. However, I wouldn't run them on my Vette bcuz of all the bad reviews I hear on the forum. I just run the TR55s with great results and at a cheaper price.

 

NGK's will also cause the charging system issues. I have no idea why a particular brand vs another is the cause but the OEM AC Delco plugs are fine.

 

Ya it's pretty much a hit or miss kinda thing with aftermarket plugs. Every Vette that I've ever worked on had NGKs installed and not one has reported problems. I wonder if it also has something to do with the plug wires.

 

In my case, I was one of those that had the charging system issue with NGK plugs and when I went back to AC Delco's, the problem went away. The wires were not changed.
