Default Squeaky Brakes

My brakes "squeak" when I am stopping at a red light or stop sign, not while I am driving.

I told this to my mechanic and he said it's because of my drilled rotors and if I don't want them to make the noise, I should change them out to non-drilled rotors.

Just checking...is this right?

Thanks in advance

It's just the nature of the standard brake pads. Many have the same complaint. Most deal with it by switching to ceramic brake pads. As long as you don't intend to track the car the ceramics are a good choice, less noise and less dust. You can get GM ceramics from one of our vendors (probably the least expensive), or Hawk or Carbotech (most expensive). If you're interested and need more info just ask.

Nothing to do with rotors, you can try to bed the pads to the rotors, this seems like a band aid for the vette. Corvette pads are a performance pad that will make noise.Maine problem I see, your not gettting them hot. You can change to an aftermarket Ceramic pad such as the Carbotech 1521 compound.

The Carbotech Bobcat 1521™ is our high performance street compound that is our most successful compound. The Bobcat compound is known for its awesome release and modulation, along with unmatched rotor friendliness. Like our AX™ & XP™ line of compounds, Bobcat 1521™ is a Ceramic based friction material offering minimal rotor damage and non corrosive dust. Bobcat 1521™ offers outstanding performance, even when cold, low dusting and low noise with an excellent initial bite. This compound’s virtually perfect linear torque production provides incredible braking force without ABS intervention. Bobcat 1521™ operating range starts out at ambient and goes up to 900°F. Bobcat 1521™ is suitable for ALL street cars, perfect for your tow vehicle, police cruiser, and has won multiple SCCA Solo 2 and Prosolo National Championships. The Bobcat 1521™ compound has been found to last two-three times longer than OE pads you can purchase at a dealership or national retailer. Bobcat 1521™ compound has also been found to extend the life of your rotors 2-3 times. That’s one of the beauties of Carbotech Ceramic brake compounds. Bobcat 1521™ is NOT recommended for any track use.

I doubt it is your rotors

Use the brakes harder and they won't squeak. Good performance pads will squeak to some degree anyways. Squeaking isn't an indication of a problem.

Thank you! I'll check with my mechanic about those pads
