2005, friend used the car. Left it in Drive and exited car. Six hours later went to enter the car, no responce with the fob. I returned that night. Tried the rear hatch key, has worked many times, but this time will not release the hatch.
I've read the thread about charging the battery via the starter. Can't jack the car at this time so looking for additional information.
Will leaving the car in drive cause the battery to be drained in six hours? Will the secuity system shut the car down if left in Drive?

There's no reason the key shouldn't work, has nothing to do with the electrics. Did you make sure the key is turning far enough, full 90 degrees? Try putting downward pressure on the hatch above the lock at the same time you turn the key. It should unlock unless the mechanism is disconnected or the key cylinder is full of crud and won't allow the key to turn far enough.
Thanks Rick. The key rotates full 90 degrees and the cylinder is clean. I'm going to try powering through the starter.

Try spraying WD40 in the lock and rotate the cylinder a few times, then press down on the hatch while someone turns the key. When its fully rotated, release pressure on the hatch.

You could also try opening it manually...pry the window open slightly (just enough to get a piece of wire through) and work it down to pull up on the manual release on the floor of the car.
It's not that tough if you have someone holding a light for you to see.
Ask me how I know, lol.

I vote for hooking a charger to the starter terminal and then just pressing the unlock button on the fob.....

That is what I would do. I cheated and have cables attached to my battery that exit at the cowl, just in case I need them.Originally Posted by breecher_7

Case closed, another happy member. AAA was able to open the door through the driver's window and floor release. The battery was dead. I then looked at the rear hatch release. Even though the release has worked numerous times since I've had the car the cable was disconnected. Thank you for all your suggestions.
