Default Notchy transmissions

I recently purchased my first corvette in february this year. I love everything about the car exept my transmission. I traded in a 2011 Camaro SS for a 2011 Grand Sport. Both have the 6 speed transmission. I believe they are both tremec tr6060's. My camaro had a noticeable notch going into 3rd gear unless you wait for the rpm's to come down before you moved the shifter. Now, my new corvette (with 200 miles) does the same exact thing, but also has a noticeable notch in 2nd gear when downshifting. By downshifting, I mean driving nicely, not wild. When I try to get the shifter into 2nd gear, (when downshifting, not upshifting) it basically pulls harder than any other gear, and has 2 notches and then it is in gear. Why are so many people having problems with their tranny's? I think for $60,000 it should be better than this.

It will get better with time...and warmer temps...Make sure you search the ranger method for keeping hydraulic fluid clean....especially on the new cars.

Lets hope it gets better. I bought this car to enjoy, not to learn new four letter words while I drive. I researched the ranger method with my camaro. I think it is a great system.

Mine was notchy for about 3k miles and worse when cold....Now its excellent and I do the ranger every 5k...now it is almost clear at 5k but it always helps to change it out.

good luck....

When shifting a warm transmission you should be able to shift using the heel of your hand on forward motion shifts and your fingertips on rearward motion shifts. Grab the shifter with your palm down not to the side. If it doesn't get easier after the first couple K miles then you might want to ask about it. The Camaro version is different than the Vette due to the location of the transmission and I suspect there is additional mechanism on the Vette because of that location.

I'm not real worried about it. It's just something that bugs me. I hate being such a perfectionist all of the time. If it does turn out to be something major with time, I did purchase a 7 year/ 75000 mile bumper to bumper warranty.

Hey Guys, useful thread, I bought my first Vette 2011 Grandsport (super blue) and have experienced Notchy, and clunky/clangy gear changes. Do the bushing fail early on this car? I read this:

http://www.mamotorworks.com/corvette...327-11246.html

My problem is up-shifting from 1st to 2nd (clang) and 2nd to 3rd (clang) regardless of how slow and precise I shift, Its concerning, and worse when cold. This is my first experience with a symptom that feels like bad syncro's.

This car was perfect for the 1st 4 days of ownership @ about 200 miles and I was amazed how awesome the shifter felt. But, after about 250 miles I noticed the shift to third became notchy and imprecise. As the others have mentioned its much worse when the car is cold and in cold weather climates.

Is there any hope to remedy this with linkage adjustments, bushing replacements etc... Or are we stuck with keep driving and hope it clears up? It really feels as its getting worse.

Thanks in advance guys. I do love the car and was proud to convert from the Porsche scene back to American Iron *eh, aluminum and fiberglass*

P.S

I took the car to the dealer and they maintain that the Car is operating as designed. As the original poster claimed, i was expecting nothing but the best at $60k.

As I said earlier, I traded a 2011 Camaro SS for my Corvette. (Camaro only had 920 miles) I had the 3rd gear notch in my transmission. I changed my fluid to mobil 1 full synthetic, and it did not change a thing. I also put in an MGW shifter, which is very nice by the way, but it did not change a thing with the notchy feeling 3rd gear either. I think all of our problems are inside the transmission, not in the linkage, or bushings. My case is more of an annoyance than problem right now, and I don't like the idea of someone taking my new car apart. I will just keep my fingers crossed that it needs some more breaking in.

KKJ, same here, annoying for sure and miss making quick precise shifts until the car is adequately warmed up.

BTW: Same situation with a friend of mines 2011 Genesis Coupe RSpec. Exact same description and symptoms... fine at first few weeks of ownership and now almost grinding from 1st to 2nd.

it's ok to be a perfectionist, but you already have most of the answer(s) to your questions above. time/miles, shifting technique, difference in Cam. to C6 trans even tho same "number", ranger.

if you choose to search and read them, there have been many threads where even more explanations have been made esp. when the trans was changed from T56 to TR6060.

unless there's something dramatically wrong with your drivetrain or your technique, everything is/will be fine.
