Default Headers hitting steering shaft

Hey guys. Installed some TPIS headers on my '08.

I'm getting a rattle occasionally, especially when I turn right. Popped the hood and noticed that the ceramic coating on the primary is a little worn next to the shaft and it touches when the wheel is turned to a particular spot.

My question is, what ideas do you have for fixing it in the car. About the only thing that I can think of is putting silicone tubing in between them, like wrapping that primary.

Basically, if I have to pull the headers to do it, they aren't going back in because this kit was a bitch to install, but that's another conversation.

I'm all ears, thanks

Had a buddy of mine with the same issue. He took it to a local muffler shop, he went to three different ones to get pricing info and got the best price to have the headers fixed and bent out of the way. They have all the proper machinery to fix the issue. If you say you can see that it rubs or touches then wrapping the header will only make noise decrease. Thus decreasing the noise, header wraps would probably be cheaper than having them taken off and fixed to fit. How about taking htme back to whoever installed them and seein if they can cut you a deal? Also has car ever been in any accidents?

I installed the headers myself. It was a total bitch. This design (TPIS) is retarded, so I won't put them back in. There are no slip fittings or flanges on the collectors, you literally hammer the first part of the mid-pipe into the headers. It was almost impossible to put together.

Car has never been in a wreck as far as I know. The primaries definitely just stick out too far, further than other headers.

Thanks for your input!

What about "denting" the header tube where it touches?

Reads like it barley touches as there is room to add header wrap or a protector.

I know denting is done on Harley Davidson motorbikes for exhaust clearance issues all the time.

Thought about that too, but it's about impossible to do with the headers in the car.

I know doing anything about it is pretty much impossible at this point since I don't want to pull them out of the car, just hoping for a miracle I guess, ha ha

Can you drive a wedge in there to flatten it a bit?

Where there is a will there is a way. on north side of houston an exhaust shop whose owner is a performance buff gives good prices on stuff like that. i had my cats replaced with straight for about $75. he would prob charge $50 to fix that. get it on the lift, heat the exhaust till red, and then a little pressure to bend out of the way.

or you could do that too from underneath with propane torch, careful of the steering linkage.

That's definitely a good thought. They are ceramic coated though.....wondering if it'll ever get hot enough...

Well, this was on a late model Camaro, not sure if the Vette is the same (my LG's had plenty of clearance on my Vette): the stainlessworks headers on my 01 Camaro hit the steering shaft. There were three bolts on the column that you could loosen and move the shaft away from the headers just enough that they no longer rattled.
