installed my lg headers long tubes the other day seem too have a exuast leak somewhere anyone else seem too have this problem, those damn clamps even with a leak the sound is badass!!! no check engine light happy about that!!! anyone have a method on how i can locate it too the exact spot of where the leak is!! oh and also got a rough idle! will the tune fix that??? give me some feed back on how your header installs went, thanks everyone!!!!
The headers don't muffle the sound as much as the heavy cast manifolds did.
You will hear the air rushing through them much more than you did before. It's totally possible you don't have a leak but are just hearing the air going through the headers.
If you have an exhaust leak it will be more prevalent while driving alongside a curb...you'll hear a very distinct "tic tic tic" while giving it gas. The first place to check for leaks is at all of the connections and ESPECIALLY where the header mates up to the head. You do not want to get a bad leak there, ruin the gasket, and have to pull the header off to put a new one on.
After the car has reached operating temps and driven for a short distance retorque ALL of the header bolts and all of the clamps. Do this two or three times to be sure everything is properly tightened.
I have LGs and as far as I know they don't leak, but not sure how you even tell when you do. Does it SOUND like it has a leak?
I would guess you jack it up or put on a lift and check while running.
You're right about the sound!
hey thanks for responding back too my post, yeah i can hear the leak it isn t that loud but i can hear it i think its at the x pipe it almost is a tic tic tic sound i am i need too put it on a lift at a muffler shop and see what they tell me, worst case scenario i am getting it tuned on the 21st so if the leak is still there i am sure synergy motorsports will be able too find it

The one place that is difficult to seal is where the rear extension pipes attach to the over the axle pipes. The pipes from LG (that I just installed on my 08 with NPP) were not split like the factory pipes. I used my metal bandsaw to cut 1" long slots into the ends of the pipes so the clamps can pull the pipes down tight onto the factory pipes. I have no leaks anywhere.
The rough idle you speak of may be due to a plug wire that is not back on tight or maybe you damaged one taking them off. I just installed LG Super Pros and have no leaks and no rough idle. Sounds friggin awesome!

Hmmmm. I made sure I put a good amount of antiseize on all fittings when I installed my LG's and no issues here. I don't know if that helped but I would think it might. I also used a lot of force when I was tightening all the clamps down.

i agree with u on that one from the rear extension pipes too my bb bullets seemed too come up a little short, i will double check my plugs u may be right on that one thanks a lot!! cant wait too get this problem resolved so i can get it retuned next week!!
Not trying to hijack this thread. But just wondering about the LG Pro series headers - I see they are 3" all the way back. I bought my car with a Borla axle-back exhaust already on it. I don't really feel like changing out the mufflers at this time (I can live with the drone for now).
The question I have is does the kit reduce to the 2 1/2" pipes for the axle-back? Or will this be something that I will need to pick up from an exhaust shop?
I have access to a lift so plan on doing the install myself. I just don't want to get a nasty surprise at 3am and find out the pipes won't be able to connects properly.

I've spoken to them already. We do some business with them time to time where I work. They are great guys.
re: No Cats
I will be going with the 1 3/4" with cats. I learned that lesson the hard way in my 02 SS Camaro. Loved the sound, didn't love the fine.
You're a brave man for attempting longtubes in California period. Without cats was just asking for trouble, lol.
You're STUCK California of all places...they hate guys like you that want to mod their cars
Fixed
I keep asking my parents/brother/sister in-law if I can register my car at their place (Hewitt, TX). But they say only if I move out there. If I could find work - I would.
But yes, I wouldn't be surprised if one day it becomes 'illegal' to change from stock OEM tire brands/sizes one day. The strange part, is the amount of aftermarket auto parts companies out here....
Longtubes aren't that bad...when you have access to a lift though...just going to be a pain every couple of years/tickets.

Do a search not that uncommon!
The no check engine light will short lived. The slip fit style of the brand lends to leaks. The other two of the big three have the better
compression fit on the colllector!
