I have 08 coupe 6.2 ls3 with 38,000 miles on it. I have this ticking noise that is getting worse and worse and engine seems to be losing power and bad gas mileage now. I understand noise is common on these engines but should not be this bad and car is under powertrain warranty and worried there is more going on than normal noise. I have brought it to local dealer two times for this and both times was given back to me as no problem found and normal. Anyone who gets in car can hear this and is embarrasing when people ask what is wrong with the car. I called gm customer support line and have gotten nowhere with them. Very poor call back and am going on just over a week with still no answers or options!! Cant believe lack of support and feel like I am on a espisode of "Punked". I'm suppose to be on vacation with wife and car driving to N. Calf. to Redwood Forest and crusing pacific coastline, and now dealing with upset wife and a loud engine noise from car sitting in my garage. Question is..any other numbers besides, 800-222-1020, or people to contact within GM midwest region who might be of help. Thank You
You said the car is getting worse and now it's lacking in power. Have you gotten a CEL or noticed any unusual behavior? I would try taking it to another dealership. Is there anyway you can post up a video of what you're experiencing?
no cel and never has had one, no mods, stock. Feels slight misfire at times but no codes. Run known good fuel and very well ,maintained. I have checked for exhaust leaks, etc. and quite sure its broken valvetrain component or burnt valve but dealer thinks it runs great. Live in smaller town and dont have many options for dealers, which is 1/2 my problem, and next best place is 150 miles away and dont trust it driving that far it so bad....Very close to getting it brought there but want to talk with GM on this first...
Sorry I can't help you diagnose the problem, but if you can get your car to the Twin Cities, I can recommend a dealer: Village Chev in Wayzata solved a unique and challenging problem with my 09 C6 last year and I was told their 2 Corvette techs are top notch. Good luck!

Where do you live in MN? Did I miss that? Did your dealer do a compression check? How about getting in touch with the customer service rep here on the forum.
NO, they did not perform compression test, power balance, inspect spark plugs, or listen with scope, not that you need one to hear this noise, as I has asked them to do so. They pulled in another corvette from showroom floor into noisy shop and compared them to each other at idle, side to side, and said no problem found for 2nd time. When I went to pick car up that afternoon, all involved personal had gone home for the day and I was unable to hear, see any results, information other than having my keys handed over to me. Tech spent .3 tenths of a hour according to repair order on this repeat issue that is getting worse and worse and I fear the worst as I have noticed reduced engine performance and more noise, which is why car is resting in garage as i'm afraid to drive it any more. Preparing to have hauled to another dealer in hopes of someone spending more than .3 tenths of a hour on it. Noise is best heard when driving all over the rpm range, not at idle in load shop, with no scope listening for any detail.
I could go on and on but wont your time, as I have wasted mine and missing a long awaited road trip with the C6 to CA with wife.
Very disappointed with dealer as I thought I was in good hands. They are good people and I have nothing bad to say about them other than dropping the ball on this one big time and dont know if its because car was not bought there or they are afraid to work on it, or sick of me being i have been there multiple times now with this issue and others that are not being resolved.
I'm not aware of GM rep on this forum but am going to check it out and I thank you for the heads up on that..
I dont care to disclose location, dealer involved, in respect to all involved and feel not needed at this point. I know you didnt ask me that in those words, I dont want to "stir the pot" any more than needed and am sorry, no offense ..thank you and enjoy your weekend!!
SOUNDS VALVE TRAIN RELATED. Get a 3 foot length of 5/16" vacuum line. Put one end to your ear hole and point the other end at the engine. The hose will allow you to ZERO in on the exact location of the noise. Move the hose around and see if you can pin point the exact location of the noise. May need to remove the valve cover and check out the springs, rockers, push rods etc.....
I completely agree thats is valvetrain noise from day 1. Again, I am aware that LS3 and other LS engine's have normal noise to a point, but this is well surpassed a normal level of noise from any combustion engine.
Question: When confirmed that the car has inop valve, broken lifter, rod, springs, rocker, etc...by putting on the miles over the time line here, has possible damage to piston, rings, cylinder walls, etc. already happened??
Thanks for the feedback guys, gals......
My old vette had a bad tick which I thought was an exhaust leak. Then one day the tick was gone and I suddenly had no power. Turned out to be bad injector. Just another idea for you.
