Default z - sudden erratic issues. Please help.

I posted this in z06 section, but may be more applicable here... Please help, as this is a DD, and of course I have a major business function tomorrow.

All of a sudden.....erratic low rpm idle, loss of high rpm power, stumbling at low rpms when taking off from a stop.

almost sounds like its missing a little.

car seemed fine when cool...but maybe it was happening a little.

then.....

I found this.....could this be the culprit, and cause the about described symptoms?

Spark plug wires boot, driver side was laying on header (like alot of people) and while trying to diagnose this issue, I had the car running....and

a small spark occured when I lightly lifted that wire (it touched header)...and I came to find out the boot is cracked.

Could this be it?

Could this cause a near 50% power drop all of a sudden at high rpm, the idle issues and the erratic stumbling?

could be, remove the wire and see if it still runs the same. Just one cylinder not firing will cause a considerable drop in performance (been there). I'm sure someone on this forum has a perfectly good used set of plug wires they could sell ya cheap. Or, most part stores are still open....

That's it. Correct the issue and it will be ready for tomorrow.

question is....what did this do to that cylinder...could there be damage....or damage down the road from this?

what can I do to check, or "fix" if there is damage.

I'm sure there is no damage. Auto's have had misfiring spark plugs for many years with no problem.

Its cooked from laying too close to the header tube. Get yourself a set of MSD wires that you can bend to shape so that it isn't laying on top of the tube, that will fix your problem.

tj, i have heard about a 50/50 split on MSD....alot of people have said those get cooked faster than the OEM's...just from being near the heat?? some have said tuning issues....

Is that not true, or are these a newer style MSD wire?

thanks

If the wire is going to be near the header it should have an insulation sleeve on it.

I have sold countless sets of the MSD wires. I have them on my personal Z06 which have been on the car since 2008. So far I have not had any issues with my wires or had any returns.
