IMO, you can if you feel insecure, but not necessary. However, if you are replacing the heads, then you might as well replace the 1.7:1 ratio rocker arms with something like Comp Cams 1.85:1 ratios kit....it's like installing a mild cam giving you a valve lift from .519 up to about .565 which I think is worth it if you plan on never changing the cam to something larger like .588 or above .600. And, If you do replace the rockers, then absolutely replace the push rods with after-market ones (chrome-moly). Fun stuff, good luck!
