Default Dead battery

My 2009 woke up with a dead battery. It was stored all Winter and I last started it about 5 weeks ago. Is it normal for the battery to go dead? What is the correct way to store it (for 6 months!)
Thanks so much!

Run a Battery tender or it will go belly up after 3 weeks.

Starting the car and running it a few minutes in the wintertime will NOT keep the battery from dying.

If you have a dead battery and have to replace it, remember that you should only need to reset the clock and the window indexing.

It's good to know that only the clock and windows will need to be set.
What are the chances that the battery is still good?
(I currently have it in the shop for testing for a few hours...)

And thank you thank you thank you for the link!!!

Have them test the battery while it's in the shop. Determining whether or not car batteries are really dead seems to be an inexact science.

it is an inexact science as jim says. I'd say, if this is the only time it's gone dead, you have a good chance of restoring it and using it for a good long time.

suggestion tho as said above: get a good battery maintainer. they run from $10-$90 depending on brand (fr. Harbor Freight to Ctek units).

mine's a $20 or so Schumacher from Advance (Wally sells, too), modified w. lighter plug in. I use it all winter, and even whenever (like now), I'm not driving it for a few days.

I also used an inline surge protector to the garage outlet. I'll replace that in about a year since it's been there for about 2 or so. my OE batt. went dead in Nov. '07 aft. not being used for about 3 weeks.

The battery in my 2005 C6 went dead a number of times (not my fault), other people (like dealer techs kept forgetting (or refusing) to leave the car in reverse (required for 2005's). Battery was just replaced last week, it lasted 6 yrs.

I use a Battery Tender in the winter for storage.

All is well. And lesson learned. Battery tender it is!!

I haven't been on the Corvette Forum since I bought my car. I'm happy to be back and learn something! (it's what I should have been doing all Winter!)

Get a Battery Tender Plus by Deltran - best on the market IMHO. Search the internet for best price, around $45-$50.
