Default Tires......?

I'm in the market for new tires for my 06 convertible.... I have had my second set of Goodyear OEM crap run flats that get ZERO mileage on treadwear. Any recommendations that reasonably priced. They do not have to be run flats. Thanks in advance.

I have about 20,000 miles on Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval runflats. The traction is great for a runflat and the ride is smooth with good traction in the rain (yes, I admit it I have driven my precious Vette in the rain-I can also report that nothing melted on the vehicle) Many on this forum have switched over from OEM to these tires and are very satified. I still have a lot of tread and the price was definitely right. The tread rating is over 300.

Because Mez the moron doesn't realize that new tires come out more times than he has brain cells. Michelin just came out with a new HP tire that they warrant a 30K treadlife warranty...did Mr. Mez's search button find this one? NO! Mez, go back to beating it...not everyone is a search maven like you nor does the search function include the latest & greatest.

Just installed Michelin PS2 ZP's after 2 sets of GY's. Love the Michelins . As for the GY's: poor mileage, ride, tracking and noise

Ok, funny guy, here is a thread recently on this same question. Satisfied? Other than providing colorful insults, what valuable information did you provide?

The search function is your friend. Please use that before posting the questions. Why should we do the searching??

I agree. The Firestone Firehawk is a great alternative! Better price and better tread life.

The Michelin Pilot Sport A/S ZP were a big improvement over the OEM on my C5 five years ago.

Next week I am putting Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S ZP on my C6. Tread wear rating is 500 and the ride, if at least as improved as before, should be well worth the extra money up front.

I want the best, quietest ride with run flat safety. The Michelins offer long life as well.

What's your driving style and needs?

Tire Rack is a good place to look and compare.

I recently installed Hankook tires. Stock size on the front and 305/30r/19 on the rear. The difference from F1 Super car tires and Hankook is like night and day. Price $798 delivered with $60 mail in rebate $739. The money I saved was put to a better use, in my pocket to spend at Carlisle in Aug.

Last year, I installed Michelin PS2 run flats on my 06. What a difference! Quieter and smoother.

I just had my rear tires switched out to Michelin Pilot Sport Plus A/S ZP on my C6. So far I like them very much.

I recently changed from Goodyear run flats to non run flat Firestone Firehawk Wide Oval Indy 500's.They ride smoother,no interior noise and handle great.I had the 4 wheel alignment changed to toe +/- 0.0 ,camber to +/- 0.0 and caster set to stock specs. If the toe is off you'll cup your tires. If the camber is off you'll wear the inside/outside of your tires but with out cupping. The factory sets the front tires toe slightly out wearing the inside of your tires quicker , hence better cornering.I set mine up this way for even tire wear ,hence better tire life.

The change was well worth it to me as well as the price difference. In my area Goodyear run flats ,just the tires alone front or back are $700 a piece before mounting, balancing etc.I got the 4 Firestones for around $1200 out the door ! I know I gave up some security with the run flats but I think it was wort it in the long run.

BTW ... I took advantage of Firestone's coupon ( found on their internet site ) to buy 3 tires and get the 4th tire free or buy 1 tire and get 50% off the 2nd tire through May 31 st on several of their tires in their line up.

I tried the above alignment settings. I grant you will get even tire wear.

My problem was the car handled like ....poo poo.

Depends on how you drive. If you like any cornering ability DO NOT GO WITH THE ABOVE SPECS. Also the car felt rather light and skittish just cruising down the freeway in a straight line.

I do not horse around in the car but the above specs just suck in terms of handling.

Just so you know

If you drive like you belong in a model T Ford your be ok!

Must be the driving style or road conditions. I used the same alignment specs and my car isn't skittish, it tracks quite docilely at 85 down the highway. All of the turns I make see to be satisfactory as I have yet to slide off the road out of control due to 0 camber. My tires are wearing flat straight across the tread (I just had them all off for new brakes and inspected them for unusual wear, none found).

Model T not found but I'd sure like to have one!
