Default Hand Held Programmers

I am looking at either the Hypertech or Predator for a stock 09-LS3 Auto, and an 07 Silverado 4.8 litre auto. Are they pretty much equal as far as results and reliability go, or would you recommend one over the other.

Thanks for all responses'

i recomend neither. i hate hand held tuners. they make good paper weights. a mail tune from one of the vendors is far superior. dyno tuning is the best.

why do you want to tune them?
what are you looking to gain?
are vehicles stock?
do you forsee any more mods?

Superchips and Predator produce the most power (sorry, I dont have the link to the test I read). They are all pretty close though.
The Superchips produced the most power, by a couple hp. But the Predator was most user friendly, and offered the smoothest idle and on/off throttle transition.

Not sure how guys are doing mail order tunes without a handheld tuner.

You can always get a custom mail order tune with the Predator.

How do you upload these said mail order tunes without a handheld?

Very simple. You remove a few screws, unplug a few wires, remove your car's computer and ship it to a professional. The downside to that of course you'll be without your car for a short time.
That is still not the method I prefer (I'm all about tuning with the actual car at the shop and on their dyno) but a properly skilled tuning/programming LSx specialty shop will still be able to get you better results than any of the hand held units mentioned above in my opinion.

I have had both the hypertec and the predator. They are both good products. I prefer the predator however because it is also a scanner, and has more range of adjustment in the tuning parameters.

Thanks for the response guys, after a little more research I did not see a Hypertech unit available for the LS3, and my primary goal for the 07 Silverado was for speedometer calibration. I am leaning toward the ecs mail order tune for the A6 Corvette, But, I did a previous post asking if members with this tune were completely satisfied and I did not get one completely satisfied reponse ( I sound like the chevy service dept.) I do not want a hard shifting feel for a leisurely trip around town.

I just refreshed myself on the ECS mailorder tune thread last night and I recall them saying it was only available for M6 cars. I believe they could supply you a starter tune to make it to a tuner after a supercharger install, but I thought their mail order tune, as a product was not available for autos. Hope I'm not providing any misinformation here.
