Generally, the RE-11 seems to be a top choice for a all around performance street tire (wet and Dry) and the Hankooks for maximum dry grip.

I just went from 285/35's to 305/30's (Pirelli P-zero rosso), on stock 19x10 wheels...... no spacer needed..... tires are still inside the quarter panel...... No traction control issues yet..... Difference in traction is huge!!! I have a 2005 A4 trans. Before, 1 & 2nd gear would spin very violently with the pedal to the floor, but now I can hold the brake, press the gas to the floor (engine stalls @ 1600) then just dump the brake..... very short tire chirps in 1st AND 2nd!!!! Without spinning, It feels like I just added 100 hp!!! 305/30 will still be a little shorter than the 285/35, but it will be closer to the same height than the 295/30 will be.
